A study of early stopping, ensembling, and patchworking for cascade correlation neural networks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The constructive topology of the cascade correlation algorithm makes it a popular choice for many researchers wishing to utilize neural networks. However, for multimodal problems, the mean squared error of the approximation increases significantly as the

Genetic Algorithm Assisted Error Probability Optimisation for Beamforming

open access: yes, 2004
A novel Genetic Algorithm (GA) assisted direct error probability optimisation technique is proposed for adaptive beamforming, which reduces the achievable error probability by nearly two orders of magnitude at a signal-to-noise ratio of 10dB in the ...

ShcD adaptor protein drives invasion of triple negative breast cancer cells by aberrant activation of EGFR signaling

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We identified adaptor protein ShcD as upregulated in triple‐negative breast cancer and found its expression to be correlated with reduced patient survival and increased invasion in cell models. Using a proteomic screen, we identified novel ShcD binding partners involved in EGFR signaling pathways.

Bounded Perturbation Regularization for Linear Least Squares Estimation

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2017
This paper addresses the problem of selecting the regularization parameter for linear least-squares estimation. We propose a new technique called bounded perturbation regularization (BPR). In the proposed BPR method, a perturbation with a bounded norm is

Detecting homologous recombination deficiency for breast cancer through integrative analysis of genomic data

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study develops a semi‐supervised classifier integrating multi‐genomic data (1404 training/5893 validation samples) to improve homologous recombination deficiency (HRD) detection in breast cancer. Our method demonstrates prognostic value and predicts chemotherapy/PARP inhibitor sensitivity in HRD+ tumours.

Tumor clusters with divergent inflammation and human retroelement expression determine the clinical outcome of patients with serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Analysis of treatment‐naïve high‐grade serous ovarian carcinoma (HGSOC) and control tissues for ERVs, LINE‐1 (L1), inflammation, and immune checkpoints identified five clusters with diverse patient recurrence‐free survivals. An inflammation score was calculated and correlated with retroelement expression, where one novel cluster (Triple‐I) with high ...

The impact of frailty syndrome on skeletal muscle histology: preventive effects of exercise

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Frailty syndrome exacerbates skeletal muscle degeneration via increased ECM deposition and myofiber loss. This study, using a murine model, demonstrates that endurance exercise attenuates these histopathological alterations, preserving muscle integrity. Findings support exercise as a viable strategy to counteract frailty‐induced musculoskeletal decline

Improved Linear Combination of Two Estimators for a Function of Interested Parameter

open access: yesRevista Colombiana de Estadística, 2016
In this paper, we consider the problem of improving the efficiency of a linear combination of two estimators when the population coefficient of variation is known. We generalized the discussion from the case of a parameter to a function of are interested

An approach for coherent periodogram averaging of tilt‐series data for improved contrast transfer function estimation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The contrast transfer function (CTF) is an imaging aberration that is a major resolution‐limiting factor in cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM). Precise CTF estimation is key to overcoming this limitation, but is particularly challenging in cryo‐electron tomography (cryo‐ET) data. Here, we present an approach for using geometric information to assist in
