Comparison of the Mean Time Between Failures for Two Systems Under Short Tests

IEEE Transactions on Reliability, 2009
A sequential probability ratio test (SPRT) is discussed, for comparison of two systems, one "basic" (b), and the other "new" (n), with exponentially distributed times between failures (TBF). The hypothesis that the mean TBFn/MTBFb ges 1 is checked, versus one that it is

Assessment of mean time between failures of metrological support and control of production

2014 12th International Conference on Actual Problems of Electronics Instrument Engineering (APEIE), 2014
Any parametres have a relevant Annotation - mean time between failures diminishes in the process of system activity before some minimum value, corresponding to a set stationary process of restoration. This fact causes necessity to study in detail issues relating to stability of systems to support efficient functioning of metrological systems.

`Mean Time Between Failures': A Subjectively Meaningful Video Quality Metric

2006 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics Speed and Signal Processing Proceedings, 2006
As digital communication of television content becomes more pervasive, the long-standing problem of assessing video quality becomes particularly important. This work describes some innovative guidelines for easy and reliable determination of a quality metric that is subjectively meaningful: mean time between failures (MTBF), representing how often a ...

Sequential Test for Arbitrary Ratio of Mean Times Between Failures

International Journal of Operations Research and Information Systems, 2011
This paper describes a planning methodology and tools for a truncated SPRT (sequential probability ratio test) for checking the means ratio of the times between failures (assumed to be exponentially distributed) of two items. The problem is considered for the situation in which the ratio may differ from unity, whereby the results are applicable for any

Control of mean time between failures

International Journal of Control, 1994
A new optimal stochastic control problem is posed. The criterion is to maximize the mean-time-between-failures criterion given a certain reference value. It is shown that this control problem is closely related both to the problem of minimizing the variance of the signal—minimum variance control — and to the problem of minimizing the so-called ...

Assessing tracking performance in complex scenarios using mean time between failures

2016 IEEE Winter Conference on Applications of Computer Vision (WACV), 2016
Existing measures for evaluating the performance of tracking algorithms are difficult to interpret, which makes it hard to identify the best approach for a particular situation. As we show, a dummy algorithm which does not actually track scores well under most existing measures.

Ten Year ESP Mean Time between Failures, Reality or Fiction

Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition & Conference, 2016
Abstract Improving Electric Submersible Pump (ESP) system reliability, eliminating or reducing failures, comprise the most frequent requests from O&G operators. Over the last few decades, notable design improvements have been made with the use of computer aided design, rapid prototyping techniques, and use space age materials.

Bayesian estimation of the difference between two mean times to failure

Stochastic Analysis and Applications, 1992
This paper is concerned with the problem of allocating a fixed number of trials between the failure times of two independent components with unknown mean times to failure , in order to estimate with squared error loss. Introducing independent gamma priors on θ and ω, a fully sequential procedure is derived and shown to be nearly optimal.

Comparison of two estimation methods of the mean time-interval between software failures

Ninth Annual International Phoenix Conference on Computers and Communications. 1990 Conference Proceedings, 1990
The quantitative assessment of software reliability by using failure time data observed during software testing in the software development is addressed. On the basis of two models described by nonhomogeneous Poisson processes, exponential and delayed S-shaped software reliability growth models, the authors adopt the mean time between software failures
