Restorative Dentistry: Dental composite depth of cure with halogen and blue light emitting diode technology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Objectives To test the hypothesis that a blue light emitting diode (LED) light curing unit (LCU) can produce an equal dental composite depth of cure to a halogen LCU adjusted to give an irradiance of 300 mWcm–2 and to characterise the LCU's light outputs.

Glycosylated LGALS3BP is highly secreted by bladder cancer cells and represents a novel urinary disease biomarker

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Urinary LGALS3BP is elevated in bladder cancer patients compared to healthy controls as detected by the 1959 antibody–based ELISA. The antibody shows enhanced reactivity to the high‐mannose glycosylated variant secreted by cancer cells treated with kifunensine (KIF).

Effects of isoflurane anaesthesia depth and duration on renal function measured with [99mTc]Tc-mercaptoacetyltriglycine SPECT in mice

open access: yesEJNMMI Research
Background The influence of anaesthetic depth and the potential influence of different anaesthetic beds and thus different handling procedures were investigated in 86 severe combined immunodeficient (SCID) mice using semi-stationary dynamic single photon

Measurement of burn depths in rats using multiwavelength photoacoustic depth profiling

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Optics, 2005
We perform measurement of photoacoustic (PA) signals for burned skin in rats in the spectral range of 500 to 650 nm. The wavelength dependence of PA signal amplitude shows characteristics similar to those of the absorption spectrum of hemoglobin, suggesting that the PA signal originates from blood in the uninjured skin tissue under the injured tissue ...

Liquid biopsy epigenetics: establishing a molecular profile based on cell‐free DNA

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) fragments in plasma from cancer patients carry epigenetic signatures reflecting their cells of origin. These epigenetic features include DNA methylation, nucleosome modifications, and variations in fragmentation. This review describes the biological properties of each feature and explores optimal strategies for harnessing cfDNA ...

Improving PARP inhibitor efficacy in bladder cancer without genetic BRCAness by combination with PLX51107

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Clinical trials on PARP inhibitors in urothelial carcinoma (UC) showed limited efficacy and a lack of predictive biomarkers. We propose SLFN5, SLFN11, and OAS1 as UC‐specific response predictors. We suggest Talazoparib as the better PARP inhibitor for UC than Olaparib.

Class IIa HDACs forced degradation allows resensitization of oxaliplatin‐resistant FBXW7‐mutated colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
HDAC4 is degraded by the E3 ligase FBXW7. In colorectal cancer, FBXW7 mutations prevent HDAC4 degradation, leading to oxaliplatin resistance. Forced degradation of HDAC4 using a PROTAC compound restores drug sensitivity by resetting the super‐enhancer landscape, reprogramming the epigenetic state of FBXW7‐mutated cells to resemble oxaliplatin ...

Analysis of radon depth profile in soil air after a rainfall by using diffusion model

open access: yesNuclear Engineering and Technology, 2019
The radon concentrations in soil air were measured before and after a rainfall. 226Ra concentration, porosity, moisture content and temperature in soil were measured at Kyungpook National University in Daegu.
