Measurement of Dust Optical Properties in Coalsack

open access: yes, 2007
We have used FUSE and Voyager observations of dust scattered starlight in the neighborhood of the Coalsack Nebula to derive the optical constants of the dust grains.

Discorrelated quantum states

open access: yes, 2017
The statistical properties of photons are fundamental to investigating quantum mechanical phenomena using light. In multi-photon, two-mode systems, correlations may exist between outcomes of measurements made on each mode which exhibit useful properties.

Relaxed Bell inequalities and Kochen-Specker theorems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The combination of various physically plausible properties, such as no signaling, determinism, and experimental free will, is known to be incompatible with quantum correlations. Hence, these properties must be individually or jointly relaxed in any model

Parent‐to‐Child Information Disclosure in Pediatric Oncology

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Despite professional consensus regarding the importance of open communication with pediatric cancer patients about their disease, actual practice patterns of disclosure are understudied. Extant literature suggests a significant proportion of children are not told about their diagnosis/prognosis, which is purported to negatively ...

An investigation of the transfer dynamics of quantum teleportation by weak measurement statistics

open access: yes, 2013
We explore the mechanism of quantum teleportation by analyzing the weak measurement statistics post-selected by the result of the Bell measurement for the joint system composed of the input A and the spatially separated output B.

Properties of Distortion Risk Measures [PDF]

open access: yesMethodology and Computing in Applied Probability, 2008
The current literature does not reach a consensus on which risk measures should be used in practice. Our objective is to give at least a partial solution to this problem. We study properties that a risk measure must satisfy to avoid inadequate portfolio selections.

Predicting Chronicity in Children and Adolescents With Newly Diagnosed Immune Thrombocytopenia at the Timepoint of Diagnosis Using Machine Learning‐Based Approaches

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives To identify predictors of chronic ITP (cITP) and to develop a model based on several machine learning (ML) methods to estimate the individual risk of chronicity at the timepoint of diagnosis. Methods We analyzed a longitudinal cohort of 944 children enrolled in the Intercontinental Cooperative immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) Study ...

Assessing Atopic Dermatitis Control in Chinese Patients: Validation of the Chinese Version of Recap of Atopic Eczema Questionnaire (RECAP) and an Investigation into Its Interpretability

open access: yesActa Dermato-Venereologica
The lack of a validated Chinese version of the Recap of Atopic Eczema questionnaire (RECAP) questionnaire limits its applicability. This prospective study, conducted at a Chinese tertiary hospital between April and November 2024, aimed to evaluate ...

Multiplicative properties of Jensen measures [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the American Mathematical Society, 1970
It is shown that if ψ \psi is a linear functional on a function algebra with ψ ( 1 ) = 1 \psi (1) = 1 , and if ψ \psi satisfies the Jensen inequality with respect to some finite nonnegative measure, then ψ \psi is multiplicative.

Pathogenic Germline PALB2 and RAD50 Variants in Patients With Relapsed Ewing Sarcoma

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Approximately 10% of patients with Ewing sarcoma (EwS) have pathogenic germline variants. Here, we report two cases: first, a novel germline pathogenic variant in partner and localizer of BRCA2 (PALB2) in a patient with a late EwS relapse. Its impact on homologous recombination is demonstrated, and breast cancer risk is discussed.
