The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Ceramic Nanotubes—Conducting Polymer Assemblies with Potential Application as Chemosensors for Breath Ammonia Detection in Chronic Kidney Disease

open access: yesChemosensors
This paper describes the process of producing chemosensors based on hybrid nanostructures obtained from Al2O3, as well as ZnO ceramic nanotubes and the following conducting polymers: poly(3-hexylthiophene), polyaniline emeraldine-base (PANI-EB), and poly(

A comparison of the calculated and experimental off-design performance of a radial flow turbine [PDF]

open access: yes
Off design aerodynamic performance of the solid version of a cooled radial inflow turbine is analyzed. Rotor surface static pressure data and other performance parameters were obtained experimentally.

Nonstandard Measure Theory-Hausdorff Measure [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the American Mathematical Society, 1977
In this paper it is shown that the Hausdorff measures λ t {\lambda ^t} for t ∈ [ 0 , ∞ ) t \in [0,\infty ) can be simultaneously represented as ∗ ^\ast finite counting measures in an appropriate ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

CREATION OF NEW ELEMENTS OF SENSOR STRUCTURES OF INFORMATION AND MEASUREMENT SYSTEMS BASED ON SILICON MICROPROCESSING TECHNOLOGIES

open access: yesИзмерение, мониторинг, управление, контроль
Background. The main protective masking layers used in the formation of sensors of information-measurement systems by anisotropic etching of silicon are described. Such layers include films of silicon dioxide and nitride applied to the surface of silicon

Reconfigurable radiofrequency filters based on versatile soliton microcombs

open access: yesNature Communications, 2020
For microcomb-based radiofrequency filters pulse shapers are required, which increase the system cost, footprint, and complexity. Here, the authors bypass this need by exploiting versatile soliton states inherent in microresonator and achieve ...

Quantum Measurements Are Noncontextual [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Quantum measurements are noncontextual, with outcomes independent of which other commuting observables are measured at the same time, when consistently analyzed using principles of Hilbert space quantum mechanics rather than classical hidden variables ...

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).
