Are scale economies in banking elusive or illusive? Evidence obtained by incorporating capital structure and risk-taking into models of bank production. [PDF]
This paper explores how to incorporate banks' capital structure and risk-taking into models of production. In doing so, the paper bridges the gulf between (1) the banking literature that studies moral hazard effects of bank regulation without considering

From Waste to Value: Conversion of Calcium Sulfate to Vaterite via Carbon Capture and Storage
This study introduces a new concept for carbon management that relies on the carbonation of industrial gypsum waste and yields phase‐pure vaterite at ambient conditions without any additives. The obtained vaterite is further shown to be a reactive material that develops compressive strength in aqueous suspensions like conventional cements.

A non‐annealed process is developed for non‐PEDOT:PSS inverted tin‐lead perovskite solar cells to attain PCE 22.67% for the PTAA‐based device. When PTAA is applied in an all‐perovskite tandem solar cell, a record efficiency of 28.14% is obtained with great stability for the efficiency maintaining 96% of its original value for 500 h under one‐sun ...

The Devil is in the Shadow – Do Institutions Affect Income and Productivity or only Official Income and Official Productivity? [PDF]
This paper assesses the relationship between institutions, output, and productivity, when official output is corrected for the size of the shadow economy. Our results confirm the usual positive impact of institutional quality on official output and total

Ni1‐Bi1 dual‐atom dopants are achieved for activating Ru lattices without blocking noble atoms. This model exhibits an ultralow overpotential of 11.4 mV and superb stability at 10 mA cm−2 toward hydrogen evolution reaction, enabling a proton exchange membrane water electrolyzer that needs only 2.233 V to reach 3.0 A cm−2 and operates stably at 1.0 A cm−

Estimating the underground economy by using MIMIC models: A response to T. Breusch´s critique [PDF]
Breusch (2005b) critically addresses an important and challenging question: Is it reliable to use the Multiple Indicators Multiple Causes model to estimate Shadow Economy? Breusch concludes that this approach is not suitable for the purpose.

A transparent, laser‐microscribed glass platform enables cancer diagnosis within 1 h—much faster than histology, which takes days, and free from the chemical or contrast risks of MRI or CT scans. The antibody‐functionalized rough glass surface captures viable cancer cells directly from suspension, allowing instant optical readout and offering a rapid ...
