Impact of mecA promoter mutations on mecA expression and β-lactam resistance levels
The reason for the extremely low-level oxacillin resistance in a so-called 'drug clone', a methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus circulating among injection drug users in Zurich, Switzerland, could be traced back to the mecA promoter sequence and particularly to the strain's genetic background.

Guidelines for Reporting Novel mecA Gene Homologues [PDF]
Methicillin-resistant staphylococci are disseminated all over the world and are frequent causes of health care- and community-associated infections. Methicillin-resistant strains typically carry the acquired mecA gene that encodes a low-affinity penicillin-binding protein (PBP), designated PBP2a ...

MECA-79 antigen is a sulfated mucin type core-1 extended O-glycan which is a potential anti-inflammatory agent. Herein we report a total synthesis of MECA-79 via a convergent [2 + 2] glycosylation routethrough the intermediacy of Tn and TF antigens.

The Gly152Val mutation possibly confers resistance to beta-lactam antibiotics in ovine Staphylococcus aureus isolates [PDF]
Background: The mecA gene is a key factor that allows bacterial cells to resist several antibiotics. Aim: This study was conducted to detect the mecA gene polymorphism in ovine wounds and its possible association with the structure and function of ...
