Staphylococcus aureus isolates were collected from different hospitals in the Alexandria governorate in Egypt. The 100 isolates were subjected to fingerprinting based on their resistance/susceptibility to antibiotics which are commonly used in Egypt and all over the world. About 54% of the isolates showed multidrug resistance.

Down-regulation of biofilm-associated genes in mecA-positive methicillin-resistant S. aureus treated with M. communis extract and its antibacterial activity [PDF]
AbstractConsidering the prevalence of resistance to antibiotics, the discovery of effective agents against resistant pathogens is of extreme urgency. Herein, 26mecA-positive methicillin-resistantS. aureus(MRSA) isolated from clinical samples were identified, and their resistance to 11 antibiotics was investigated.

Screening for mecA and mecC Gene Carriage among Clinical Isolates of Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus at a Tertiary Care Hospital: A Cross-sectional Study [PDF]
Introduction: Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) has emerged as one of the most important human pathogen, and has been a leading cause of hospital and community acquired infections. Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) carrying the mecA gene

mecA-Gene Detection and MDR Profile of S. Aureus Isolates From Patients Attending The Referral Hospitals of Amhara Reginal State, Ethiopia [PDF]
Abstract Background: Staphylococcus aureus causes different types of human infections, and has an ability to develop resistance to many antibiotics. There is scarcity of data on mecA gene and MDR profiles of this organism in developing countries, like Ethiopia. The aim of the present study is therefore, to investigate MDR profiles and mecA-gene

Fecal Carriage of S. aureus and the mecA Gene in Resident Wild Birds and Its Zoonotic Potential
Resistant Staphylococcus (S.) aureus in general and MRSA, in particular, have received great attention in both veterinary and human health sectors. The importance of fecal carriage of staphylococci is rarely encountered. This study aimed to investigate the role of wild birds in Giza governorate, Egypt in spreading resistant S.

Molecular Detection and Characterization of the mecA and nuc Genes From Staphylococcus Species (S. aureus, S. pseudintermedius, and S. schleiferi) Isolated From Dogs Suffering Superficial Pyoderma and Their Antimicrobial Resistance Profiles [PDF]
Canine superficial pyoderma (CSP) is a bacterial infection secondary to several skin diseases of the dog. Staphylococcus pseudintermedius, which is a commensal bacterium of the dog's skin, is the leading agent found in dogs affected by CSP, which can progress to deep pyoderma. It is also of clinical significance because S.

Expression and inducibility in Staphylococcus aureus of the mecA gene, which encodes a methicillin-resistant S. aureus-specific penicillin-binding protein [PDF]
A beta-lactam-sensitive strain of Staphylococcus aureus could be converted to methicillin resistance by the introduction of a plasmid carrying the 4.3-kilobase HindIII chromosomal DNA fragment which encoded the mecA gene from a methicillin-resistant S. aureus. Transformant cells produced methicillin-resistant S.

Multiplex real-time PCR for detection of Staphylococcus aureus, mecA and Panton-Valentine Leukocidin (PVL) genes from selective enrichments from animals and retail meat. [PDF]
The aim of this study was to compare a real-time PCR assay, with a conventional culture/PCR method, to detect S. aureus, mecA and Panton-Valentine Leukocidin (PVL) genes in animals and retail meat, using a two-step selective enrichment protocol.
