Mechanisms of plasminogen activation
Journal of Internal Medicine, 1994The fibrinolytic system consists of an inactive proenzyme, plasminogen, that is converted by plasminogen activators to the active enzyme, plasmin, that degrades fibrin. Two immunologically distinct plasminogen activators have been identified: tissue-type plasminogen activator (t-PA) and urokinase-type plasminogen activator (u-PA).

S. Buratowski discusses two papers in this issue of Science (Sauer et al ., pp. 1783 and 1825 ) that show that the basal transcription factor complex TFIID is a target of transcriptional activators.

Mechanically activated ion channels
The International Journal of Biochemistry & Cell Biology, 2018The ability of cells to sense and respond to their physical environment is fundamental to a broad spectrum of biological processes. Cells express an array of force sensors that can transduce mechanical inputs into biochemical signals, including the mechanically activated ion channels PIEZO1, PIEZO2 and TRPV4.

Bladder activation: afferent mechanisms
Urology, 2002The major function of the lower urinary tract is to store and periodically evacuate urine from the bladder. This requires coordination of the smooth muscles of the bladder and urethra, and of the striated muscles of the outflow region and pelvic floor by a complex neural control system. Lumbosacral afferent fibers (pelvic afferents), but also afferents

Annual Review of Biochemistry, 2015
The ataxia-telangiectasia mutated (ATM) protein kinase is a master regulator of the DNA damage response, and it coordinates checkpoint activation, DNA repair, and metabolic changes in eukaryotic cells in response to DNA double-strand breaks and oxidative stress.

PKA-activation mechanism revised
Science, 2017Signal Transduction Many hormone receptors stimulate production of cyclic AMP (adenosine monophosphate), which activates PKA (protein kinase A). The textbook view suggests that activation releases the catalytic subunit of the enzyme from its complex with the regulatory subunit. Smith et al.

Study on mechanism of mechanical activation
Materials Science and Engineering: A, 1997A mixture of ilmenite and graphite with a mass ratio (1:1) was ball milled at room temperature and subsequently annealed under Ar flow. The enhanced carbothermic reactions were monitored by using thermogravimetric analysis and X-ray diffraction analysis.

MECHANISMS OF ACTIVATED CARBON BIOREMOVAL
Chemical Engineering Communications, 1988Abstract The removal of an organic azo dye-stuff particularly resistant to biodegradation was studied in an activated sludge pilot plant on the basis of the PACT process. Different runs were carried out by adding to the oxidation basin both adsorbent solids (granular activated carbon (GAC), and powdered activated carbon (PAC)) or practically non ...

Mechanical Activation of Pharmaceutical Systems
Pharmaceutical Research, 1985Mechanical activation has become a phenomenon of general significance in pharmaceutics. This report describes the extent of activation induced by relevant processes. With the use of the Eyring equation the transformation of structurally stored energy into chemical energy and the implied free enthalpy as well as the excess free enthalpy (activity) were ...
