Semantic Embeddings of Chemical Elements for Enhanced Materials Inference and Discovery
We present a framework for generating semantic embeddings of chemical elements to advance alloy inference and discovery. This framework leverages ElementBERT, a domain‐specific BERT‐based natural language processing model trained on 1.29 million ...

Effects of Fe solid solute on grain boundaries of bi-crystal Cu: A molecular dynamics simulation
Grain boundaries (GBs) play a crucial role on the structural stability and mechanical properties of Cu and its alloys. In this work, molecular dynamics (MD) simulations are employed to study the effects of Fe solutes on the formation energy, excess ...

Mechanisms of Motivation in Avoidance Behavior
The mechanisms involved in avoidance behavior are discussed. It is assumed that the conditioned stimulus (CS) activates the memory pattern of associations related to the former applications of the unconditioned stimulus (US) and, as a result, produces an undesirable sensory state.

Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Duplex (α+β) Ti alloys often manifest limited uniform elongation (εu) mainly originating from the lack of dislocations for insufficient work hardening capability and semi‐coherent α/β interfaces for strain incompatibility.

A review on multicomponent rare earth silicate environmental barrier coatings
Rare earth (RE) silicate environmental barrier coatings (EBCs), with superior physicochemical properties and resistance to hot water-oxygen and calcium-magnesium-aluminosilicate (CMAS) corrosion, are ideal candidates for safeguarding the next-generation ...
