Abstract The mechanical behavior of a material is its response to an applied load or force. Important mechanical properties are strength, hardness, stiffness, and ductility. This chapter discusses three principal ways in which these properties are tested: tension, compression, and shear.

On the mechanical behavior of LIGA nickel
2009 4th IEEE International Conference on Nano/Micro Engineered and Molecular Systems, 2009We get the mechanical behavior of pure nickel material produced by the LIGA method in Institute of High Energy Physics Chinese Academy of Sciences through tensile tests. The average Young's modulus is 215 GPa, which is almost exactly the same as measured on the device, NanoIndentation.

The Evolutionary Mechanisms of Neurotic Behavior
American Journal of Psychiatry, 1974The authors present evidence that many of the maladaptive behavior patterns labeled as neurotic result from man's retention of archaic responses. This retention is the end product of man's evolutionary history, which has produced a species that, in contrast to all others, requires a long period of immaturity to give the brain time for growth.

Abstract This chapter discusses the stress-strain response of materials, how it is measured, and how it used to set performance expectations. It begins by describing the common tensile test and how it sheds light on the elastic design of structures as well as plasticity and fracture behaviors.

MECHANICAL BEHAVIOR AND CHARACTERIZATION OF MICROCAPSULES
Annual Review of Materials Research, 2006▪ Abstract In recent years microcapsule systems have found applications in many areas of science and technology. Their use to a large extent depends on how mechanical properties are understood and controlled. Here we review different experimental techniques recently developed to probe microcapsule mechanics and to characterize other physical ...

Agent behaviors and coordinative mechanism
Kybernetes, 2012PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to improve the behaviors coordination mechanism, to maintain the system's long time‐scale and stable competitive capability, when the agents in the system focus on cooperating with each other.Design/methodology/approachEffort level for every agent, whose dynamics can be described as a stochastic partial differential ...

Benzodiazepines: behavioral and neurochemical mechanisms
American Journal of Psychiatry, 1977The therapeutic effects of benzodiazepines in psychoneurosis may depend in part on their ability to release or disinhibit a patient's anxiety-suppressed gratification-seeking behavior. Benzodiazepines may disinhibit behavior by reducing the activity of serotonin (and possibly acetylcholine) neurons in the brain's "punishment" system.

Mechanisms of Regulation of Sexual Behavior
Neuroscience and Behavioral Physiology, 2005The scientific literature contains extensive material on the hormonal regulation of sexual behavior in mammals (rats, hamsters, guinea pigs, primates), while the questions of sexual behavior in humans are found beyond scientific journals. However, in our view, there remain several questions not included in the more or less generally accepted schemes ...

AbstractThis paper studies the mechanism design problem for the class of Bayesian environments where agents do care for the well‐being of others. For these environments, we fully characterize interim efficient (IE) mechanisms and examine their properties.
