Synthesis of nearly spherical AlN particles by an in-situ nitriding combustion route
Spherical AlN powders with micrometer size have attracted great attention owing to their good fluidity and dispersity. However, the industrial preparation methods usually require high temperature and long soaking time, which lead to the high cost and ...

Ferroelectric switching in ferroelastic materials with rough surfaces
Electric switching of non-polar bulk crystals is shown to occur when domain walls are polar in ferroelastic materials and when rough surfaces with steps on an atomic scale promote domain switching.

The mechanical behavior of shales [PDF]
The thesis comprises three experimental studies, which were carried out to unravel the short- as well as the long-term mechanical properties of shale rocks. Short-term mechanical properties such as compressive strength and Young’s modulus were taken from recorded stress-strain curves of constant strain rate tests.

Nanostructural Sc-based hierarchy to improve the creep resistance of Al–Cu alloys
Al-2.5 wt% Cu alloys with different Sc additions (0, 0.1, 0.3, 0.5 wt%) are studied in comparison to reveal the Sc microalloying effect on precipitation, room temperature mechanical properties, and creep resistance.

A sphingolipid mechanism for behavioral extinction [PDF]
AbstractReward‐dependent instrumental behavior must continuously be re‐adjusted according to environmental conditions. Failure to adapt to changes in reward contingencies may incur psychiatric disorders like anxiety and depression. When an expected reward is omitted, behavior undergoes extinction.

Determining Multi‐Component Phase Diagrams with Desired Characteristics Using Active Learning
Herein, we demonstrate how to predict and experimentally validate phase diagrams for multi‐component systems from a high‐dimensional virtual space of all possible phase diagrams involving several elements based on small existing experimental data.
