By dawn or dusk—how circadian timing rewrites bacterial infection outcomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The circadian clock shapes immune function, yet its influence on infection outcomes is only beginning to be understood. This review highlights how circadian timing alters host responses to the bacterial pathogens Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, and Streptococcus pneumoniae revealing that the effectiveness of immune defense depends not only

Study on the Size Effects of H-Shaped Fusion Zone of Fiber Laser Welded AZ31 Joint

open access: yesMetals, 2018
There are two kinds of typical cross-section profiles for the fusion zone (FZ) of a laser welded thin section joint, i.e., a V-shaped cross-section and an H-shaped cross-section.

Effects of preparation process on microstructure and properties of porous Ti6Al4V

open access: yesJournal of Aeronautical Materials, 2023
The forced sweat cooling of porous media is an effective way to solve the problem of thermal protection of the leading edge of hypersonic vehicles. The pore structure and performance of porous media have a significant impact on its cooling effect and ...

Mechanical Behaviors of Carbon Nanoscrolls [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, 2013
Theoretical analysis and molecular dynamics simulations are presented to study the mechanical behaviors of Carbon nanoscrolls (CNSs). The study shows that a graphene sheet can rapidly self-scroll onto a carbon nanotube. The van der Waals interaction between the graphene sheet and the nanotube is the driving force of self-assemble process.

Shape Memory Alloy Nanostructures With Coupled Dynamic Thermo-Mechanical Effects [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Employing the Ginzburg-Landau phase-field theory, a new coupled dynamic thermo-mechanical 3D model has been proposed for modeling the cubic-to-tetragonal martensitic transformations in shape memory alloy (SMA) nanostructures.

The role and implications of mammalian cellular circadian entrainment

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
At their most fundamental level, mammalian circadian rhythms occur inside every individual cell. To tell the correct time, cells must align (or ‘entrain’) their circadian rhythm to the external environment. In this review, we highlight how cells entrain to the major circadian cues of light, feeding and temperature, and the implications this has for our

Molecular bases of circadian magnesium rhythms across eukaryotes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Circadian rhythms in intracellular [Mg2+] exist across eukaryotic kingdoms. Central roles for Mg2+ in metabolism suggest that Mg2+ rhythms could regulate daily cellular energy and metabolism. In this Perspective paper, we propose that ancestral prokaryotic transport proteins could be responsible for mediating Mg2+ rhythms and posit a feedback model ...

Effects of Deep Cryogenic Treatment on the Microstructures and Tribological Properties of Iron Matrix Self-Lubricating Composites

open access: yesMetals, 2018
The effects of deep cryogenic treatment on the microstructures and tribological properties of the self-lubricating iron matrix composites are investigated. The self-lubricating composites are deeply cryogenically treated at about −196 °C.

Interplay between circadian and other transcription factors—Implications for cycling transcriptome reprogramming

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This perspective highlights emerging insights into how the circadian transcription factor CLOCK:BMAL1 regulates chromatin architecture, cooperates with other transcription factors, and coordinates enhancer dynamics. We propose an updated framework for how circadian transcription factors operate within dynamic and multifactorial chromatin landscapes ...
