The Mechanisms of Loan Market Efficiency
SSRN Electronic Journal, 2021This article develops an account of the mechanisms of efficiency of corporate loan markets or the secondary markets in which loans made to corporate borrowers are traded. In our account: 1) professionally informed trading incorporating information about the quality of the loan terms offered to borrowers, is the primary source of corporate loan market ...

Estimation of errors in mechanical efficiency
European Journal of Applied Physiology and Occupational Physiology, 1990Errors in measurements of mechanical work, net energy expenditure and mechanical efficiency (ME) were calculated, when subjects performed isolated eccentric or concentric muscle actions and combinations of these actions [stretch-shortening cycle (SSC) exercises] with a special sledge apparatus. The relative error of mechanical work was 6.1%.

A mechanism for efficient context switching
[1991 Proceedings] IEEE International Conference on Computer Design: VLSI in Computers and Processors, 2002Context switches are slow in conventional processors because the entire processor state must be saved and restored, even if much of the restored state is not used before the next context switch. This unnecessary data movement is required because of the coarse granularity of binding between names and registers.

We study Bayesian mechanism design in situations where agents’ information may be multi-dimensional, concentrating on mechanisms that lead to efficient allocations. Our main result is that a generalization of the well-known Vickrey-Clarke-Groves mechanism maximizes the planner’s “revenue” among all efficient mechanisms.

Efficiency of Ion Transport Mechanisms
Nature, 1966IT has often been assumed, as in the theory of active transport of ions, that metabolic energy is required to transfer sodium ions from a low intracellular concentration to a higher concentration in blood serum or an external fluid1–3. On that assumption, the efficiency of any transport mechanism would be expressed as the ratio of output of work to ...

Efficient mechanisms with small subsidies
International Joint Conference on Autonomous Agents and Multiagent Systems, 2010We address the problem of designing efficient mechanisms that never yield revenue, instead requiring small subsidies. Such mechanisms will be pertinent for settings in which taxing agents is undesirable or impractical---imagine, e.g., a government or private philanthropist that seeks to make a minimal monetary contribution that will allow a group of ...
