Efficient Routing Mechanisms for Dragonfly Networks [PDF]

open access: yes2013 42nd International Conference on Parallel Processing, 2013
High-radix hierarchical networks are cost-effective topologies for large scale computers. In such networks, routers are organized in super nodes, with local and global interconnections. These networks, known as Dragonflies, outperform traditional topologies such as multi-trees or tori, in cost and scalability. However, depending on the traffic pattern,

Stiffness Modeling of Tooth Interior Fatigue and Tooth Flank Fracture and Their Fault Characteristics in Electromechanical Coupling Systems

open access: yesShock and Vibration
Tooth flank fracture (TFF) and tooth interior fatigue fracture (TIFF) usually occur on case-harden gears in electromechanical coupling systems, both starting from the core caused by metal fatigue. The cracks propagate rapidly compared with the total life

Cross-coupled intelligent control for a novel two-axis differential micro-feed system

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2018
Nonlinear friction in a conventional drive feed system feeding at low speed is a main factor that contributes to feed drive complexity. A novel two-axis differential micro-feed system is developed in this study to overcome the accuracy limitation of ...

Fractal space frames and metamaterials for high mechanical efficiency

open access: yes, 2008
A solid slender beam of length $L$, made from a material of Young's modulus $Y$ and subject to a gentle compressive force $F$, requires a volume of material proportional to $L^{3}f^{1/2}$ [where $f\equiv F/(YL^{2})\ll 1$] in order to be stable against ...

Efficacy and Safety Analysis of Roxarestat in Regulating Renal Anemia in Patients on Maintenance Hemodialysis

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To compare the efficacy and safety of roxarestat versus recombinant human erythropoietin (rhEPO) in the management of renal anemia in patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis. Methods This was a prospective, open‐label, randomized controlled trial.

Electrothermally Driven Reconfiguration of Microrobotic Beam Structures for the ChipSail System

open access: yesMicromachines, 2023
Solar sailing enables efficient propellant-free attitude adjustment and orbital maneuvers of solar sail spacecraft with high area-to-mass ratios. However, the heavy supporting mass for large solar sails inevitably leads to low area-to-mass ratios ...

Loose mechanochemical coupling of molecular motors

open access: yes, 2011
In living cells, molecular motors convert chemical energy into mechanical work. Its thermodynamic energy efficiency, i.e. the ratio of output mechanical work to input chemical energy, is usually high.

Greedy Algorithms Make Efficient Mechanisms [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Sixteenth ACM Conference on Economics and Computation, 2015
We study mechanisms that use greedy allocation rules and pay-your-bid pricing to allocate resources subject to a matroid constraint. We show that all such mechanisms obtain a constant fraction of the optimal welfare at any equilibrium of bidder behavior, via a smoothness argument.

Revealing the structure of land plant photosystem II: the journey from negative‐stain EM to cryo‐EM

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Advances in cryo‐EM have revealed the detailed structure of Photosystem II, a key protein complex driving photosynthesis. This review traces the journey from early low‐resolution images to high‐resolution models, highlighting how these discoveries deepen our understanding of light harvesting and energy conversion in plants.
