Composites in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials, 2023
An important step towards improving performance while reducing weight and maintenance needs is the integration of composite materials into mechanical and aerospace engineering. This subject explores the many aspects of composite application, from basic material characterization to state-of-the-art advances in manufacturing and design processes.

One-particle engine with a porous piston [PDF]

open access: yesSci. Rep. 12 13896 (2022), 2022
We propose a variation of the classical Szilard engine that uses a porous piston. Such an engine requires neither information about the position of the particle, nor the removal and subsequent insertion of the piston when resetting the engine to continue doing work by lifting a mass against a gravitational field.

Abstract models for heat engines [PDF]

open access: yesFront. Phys. 16, 33202 (2021), 2020
We retrospect three abstract models for heat engines which include a classic abstract model in textbook of thermal physics, a primary abstract model for finite-time heat engines, and a refined abstract model for finite-time heat engines. The detailed models of heat engines in literature of finite-time thermodynamics may be mapped into the refined ...

Information Arbitrage in Bipartite Heat Engines [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. X 14, 041038 (2024), 2023
Heat engines and information engines have each historically served as motivating examples for the development of thermodynamics. While these two types of systems are typically thought of as two separate kinds of machines, recent empirical studies of specific systems have hinted at possible connections between the two.

Engineering entanglement mechanically [PDF]

open access: yesPhysics Letters A, 2012
We propose entanglement for hybrid optomechanical system consisting of Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) inside a single-mode high-Q Fabry-Perot cavity with a vibrating end mirror (mechanical mirror). The intracavity field couples the vibrating end mirror with collective atomic density of the BEC.

Bath engineering enhanced quantum critical engines [PDF]

open access: yesEntropy 2022, 24(10), 1458, 2022
Driving a quantum system across quantum critical points leads to non-adiabatic excitations in the system. This in turn may adversely affect the functioning of a quantum machine which uses a quantum critical substance as its working medium. Here we propose a bath-engineered quantum engine (BEQE), in which we use the Kibble--Zurek mechanism and critical ...

Stationary engines in and beyond the linear response regime at the Carnot efficiency [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. E 95, 052128 (2017), 2017
The condition for stationary engines to attain the Carnot efficiency in and beyond the linear response regime is investigated. We find that this condition for finite-size engines is significantly different from that for macroscopic engines in the thermodynamic limit.

Quantum mechanical Carnot engine [PDF]

open access: yesJ. Phys. A 33, 4427-4436, 2000, 2000
A cyclic thermodynamic heat engine runs most efficiently if it is reversible. Carnot constructed such a reversible heat engine by combining adiabatic and isothermal processes for a system containing an ideal gas. Here, we present an example of a cyclic engine based on a single quantum-mechanical particle confined to a potential well.

Fundamental mechanics : newtonian mechanics for engineering

open access: yes, 2023
This book is addressed at a first course in engineering mechanics. Newtonian mechanics is studied, a non-relativistic classical mechanics and, therefore, applied to objects that are neither extremely small nor excessively fast. The newtonian mechanics affects a good part of the world around us. It is the mechanics of the everyday world.
