Force Compensation Control for Electro-Hydraulic Servo System with Pump–Valve Compound Drive via QFT–DTOC

open access: yesChinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering
Each joint of a hydraulic-driven legged robot adopts a highly integrated hydraulic drive unit (HDU), which features a high power–weight ratio. However, most HDUs are throttling-valve-controlled cylinder systems, which exhibit high energy losses.

Vibration limiting of rotors by feedback control [PDF]

open access: yes, 1982
Experimental findings of a three mass rotor with four channels of feedback control are reported. The channels are independently controllable with force being proportional to the velocity and/or instantaneous displacement from equilibrium of the shaft at ...

Generation of Advanced Blood–Brain Barrier Spheroids Using Human‐Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell‐Derived Brain Capillary Endothelial‐Like Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
In this article, the establishment and characterization of a self‐assembled 3D BBB spheroid model using human induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC)‐derived and primary cells is reported. Spheroids demonstrate in‐vivo like tight junction ultrastructure and, in comparison to 2D mono‐cultures, higher transcript expression of BBB specific genes.

Machinery manufacture in the formal sector of Kenya [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
For the majority of African countries the problem with the notion of 'appropriate technology' is that in the absence of endogenous technological capacity there is an almost total reliance on the acquisition of capital-goods from external sources, which ...

Toward Design Principles for Biomolecular Condensates for Metabolic Pathways

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates are membrane‐less compartments found through‐out nature which can serve as reaction crucibles for biochemical processes. This review explores the design strategies underlying how condensates can be used in biotechnology to enhance multistep enzyme cascades including enhancement by mass action and substrate channeling, and ...
