AAPM medical physics practice guideline 13.a: HDR brachytherapy, part B
Abstract The goal of this report is to assist the clinical medical physicist in assuring that key quality standards and practice considerations are met to ensure safe, reliable, and reproducible high dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy (BT) treatment. This guideline has been developed to provide appropriate minimum standards for such services.

Anticoagulation in patients with mechanical heart valves: follow the guidelines!
Heart valve surgery has been one of the great leaps forward in the management of heart disease in the last 60 years. Thanks to technical developments, artificial heart valves were constructed that prove to be competent and durable.

Abstract Purpose/objective We propose a novel lattice deployment for spatially fractionated radiotherapy (SFRT) treatments. In this approach, a larger diameter high‐dose sphere is centrally placed in the bulky tumor mass and surrounded by smaller diameter high‐dose spheres.

The New Heart Failure Association Definition of Advanced Heart Failure
The clinical course of heart failure is characterised by progressive worsening of cardiac function and symptoms. Patients progress to a condition where traditional treatment is no longer effective and advanced therapies, such as mechanical circulatory ...

The living aortic valve: From molecules to function. [PDF]
The aortic valve lies in a unique hemodynamic environment, one characterized by a range of stresses (shear stress, bending forces, loading forces and strain) that vary in intensity and direction throughout the cardiac cycle.

ABSTRACT Objectives To investigate whether pulse pressure or mean arterial pressure mediates the relationship between age and white matter hyperintensity load and to examine the mediating effect of white matter hyperintensities on cognition. Methods Demographic information, blood pressure, current medication lists, and Montreal Cognitive Assessment ...

Fluid dynamic characterization of a polymeric heart valve prototype (Poli-Valve) tested under continuous and pulsatile flow conditions. [PDF]
PURPOSE: Only mechanical and biological heart valve prostheses are currently commercially available. The former show longer durability but require anticoagulant therapy; the latter display better fluid dynamic behavior but do not have adequate durability.

Clinical Characteristics of Parkinsonism in HTLV‐1‐Associated Myelopathy
ABSTRACT Objective Human T‐lymphotropic virus type 1 (HTLV‐1)‐associated myelopathy/tropical spastic paraparesis (HAM/TSP) is the classic neurological manifestation of HTLV‐1 infection; however, this virus has also been associated with other neurological disorders. Concurrent parkinsonism is relatively rare and presents diagnostic challenges.
