Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

Worsening Heart Failure From Decreased Atrioventricular Synchronization Rate of a Leadless Pacemaker

open access: yesJACC: Case Reports
Background: Atrioventricular synchronous pacing with a leadless pacemaker is a therapy used in patients with atrioventricular block. However, atrial oversensing may cause an increase in heart rate, with resulting atrioventricular dyssynchrony.

The Aging Blood: Cellular Origins, Circulating Drivers, and Therapeutic Potential

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
As a conduit linking all organs, the blood system both reflects and actively drives systemic aging. This review highlights how circulating pro‐aging and antiaging factors and age‐associated hematopoietic stem cell dysfunction contribute to immunosenescence and multi‐organ decline, positioning the hematopoietic system as a target for aging intervention.

Current Status of Mechanical Circulatory Support: A Systematic Review

open access: yesCardiology Research and Practice, 2012
Heart failure is a major public health problem and its management requires a significant amount of health care resources. Even with administration of the best available medical treatment, the mortality associated with the disease remains high.

Persistent Leukoencephalopathy Following H1N1 Infection Associated With a Novel MYRF Variant (p.Gly735Asp)

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Mutations in myelin regulatory factor (MYRF) are linked to demyelinating disorders. We report a 38‐year‐old male who developed acute symmetric leukoencephalopathy mimicking a stroke following an influenza A virus infection. While clinical symptoms markedly improved with corticosteroids, MRI revealed persistent white matter lesions, contrasting

Pulsatile Mechanical Heart Assist Device

open access: yes, 2016
In this paper is described an innovative, easy to reuse heart assist device implying low production and maintenance costs, which needs minimally invasive techniques for the connection to the arterial system and that assists the failing heart according to the counterpulsation principle as an eligible solution for developing countries but also in case of

Frailty Exacerbates Disability in Progressive Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background To evaluate frailty in severe progressive multiple sclerosis (PMS) and to investigate the underlying mechanisms. Methods This prospective, cross‐sectional, multicenter study enrolled a late severe PMS group requiring skilled nursing (n = 53) and an age, sex, and disease duration‐matched control PMS group (n = 53).
