Tunable Mechanical Metamaterials [PDF]
Abstract : We have established the feasibility of creating mechanical metamaterials over a broad range of frequencies. We have shown that it is possible to have stress waves with negative dynamic effective modulus of elasticity or negative dynamic effective density within various windows of frequencies.

Cuttlebone‐inspired metamaterials exploit a septum‐wall architecture to achieve excellent mechanical and functional properties. This review classifies existing designs into direct biomimetic, honeycomb‐type, and strut‐type architectures, summarizes governing design principles, and presents a decoupled design framework for interpreting multiphysical ...

Design and macroscopic mechanical responses of auxetic metamaterials with tunable stiffness
This research presents the design, manufacturing, and macroscopic characterization of flexible mechanical metamaterials with tunable elastic properties. The elastic constants were given using the energy principle and Castigliano's second theorem, and the

Effect of Thermal and Mechanical Deformation of Metamaterial FDM Components [PDF]
At Lancaster University, research is currently investigating the use of rapid manufacturing (RM) to realise metamaterials, although key to the success of this project is the development of an understanding of how coated RM parts deform under thermal and ...

Self‐Hybridized Exciton‐Polariton Photodetectors From Layered Metal‐Organic Chalcogenolates
Self‐hybridized exciton‐polariton photodetectors are demonstrated using high refractive index mithrene, eliminating the need for top mirrors. This simplified architecture enables tunable sub‐bandgap photodetection via lower exciton‐polariton states and enhanced carrier transport through ultrafast polariton group velocities.

Auxeticity‑by‑Assembly converts freeform photovoltaics from cut‑defined layouts to assembly‑defined systems. Standardized interlocking units generate negative‑Poisson‑ratio, reconfigurable architectures, while hinge regions are wired by selectively activatable AgNW–GO@EGaIn composite interconnects and a folding‑enabled interconnector layer. A decimeter‑

Relaxed micromorphic model of transient wave propagation in anisotropic band-gap metastructures
In this paper, we show that the transient waveforms arising from several localised pulses in a micro-structured material can be reproduced by a corresponding generalised continuum of the relaxed micromorphic type.

Nonlocal Conduction in a Metawire
A 1D metawire composed of twisted copper wires is designed and realized. This metamaterial exhibits pronounced effects of nonlocal electric conduction according to Ohm's law. The current at one location not only depends on the electric field at that location but also on other locations.
