This study finds that the slip-hardening parameter (β) increases with the increasing of PE (Polyethylene) fiber inclination for UHS-UHDCC (ultra-high strength and ultra-high ductility cementitious composites), the slip-hardening increasing coefficient (ω)

Nonlocal Interface Mechanical Model
Materials Science Forum, 2007The paper presents a nonlocal elastic damage-frictional interface model. The reason to introduce nonlocal mechanical features inside the constitutive relations is justified by the fact that there are several circumstances, in which the interface displays inside an extended process zone with microstructural spatial interactions.

Birdsong: models and mechanisms
Current Opinion in Neurobiology, 2001Recent studies have provided important information concerning the neural signals that subserve vocal learning in songbirds: advanced signal processing techniques are beginning to clarify the behavioral trajectories followed by developing birds; single-unit physiology in behaving animals is providing important clues about sensory and motor ...

Modelling DNA conformational mechanics
Biophysical Chemistry, 1994Using a modelling technique specifically adapted to DNA helices, we have systematically studied the impact of base sequence on the geometry of the double helix. The results obtained show that each repetitive base sequence leads to several stable conformations belonging to the B-DNA family.

Studies in History and Philosophy of Science Part C: Studies in History and Philosophy of Biological and Biomedical Sciences, 2005
Philosophers of science increasingly believe that much of science is concerned with understanding the mechanisms responsible for the production of natural phenomena. An adequate understanding of scientific research requires an account of how scientists develop and test models of mechanisms.

Investigation of interface shear properties and mechanical model between ECC and concrete
Construction and Building Materials, 2019This paper reveals an investigation of the influences of ECC mixture construction method (i.e., common casting and spraying ECC), ECC strength grade, interface roughness of concrete substrate, and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fiber type on shear properties of

Modeling Electro-Mechanical Actuators
2006 IEEE Conference on Computer-Aided Control Systems Design, 2006An electro-magnetic relay model is setup using a generalized Kirchhoff-network approach. The model features several mechanical nonlinear elements (stops), a nonlinear model for magnetization based on the Jiles-Atherton model and a nonlinear model for the non homogeneous magnetization of the anchor at the air gap.
