Green composites: sustainability and mechanical performance
Plastics, Rubber and Composites, 2013This study considers the mechanical properties of a range of thermosetting resin systems, including systems with bioderived content, and associated natural fibre composites. The bioderived resin systems (22 and 40% biocontent) demonstrated similar tensile strength to standard resin systems, indicating their potential to be a substitute for such systems.

Mechanical performance of starch-based biocomposites
2015© 2015 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved. This chapter provides an overview of starch-based biocomposites with a main focus on their mechanical properties. The chapter first introduces the basic knowledge of starch including its structure and plasticisation behaviour, followed by discussion of the mechanical properties of starch-based materials, starch ...

Mechanical performance of surgical needle holders
The Journal of Emergency Medicine, 1991A new quantitative measurement of surgical needle holder performance has been described that records the forces (clamping moment) applied by the needle holder jaws to curved surgical needles. This test has been used to determine the applied clamping forces of four different surgical needle holders made by one manufacturer.

Mechanization and crop performance
1978In the last 25 years techniques of potato production throughout the world have changed radically. Although developments in western Europe have not been as rapid as in the U.S.A., mechanization has nevertheless reached a more advanced level there than in some other parts of the world, and the changes which have taken place in Great Britain may therefore

Mechanical performance of laminated discs
IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2000Laminated discs are one of the enabling technologies to increase areal density of a recording disc drive to beyond 100 G/in/sup 2/. Enhanced damping characteristics do, however, come at the expense of axial rigidity of the substrates. This work demonstrates that by varying the polymer thickness, damping and axial rigidity of the substrates can be ...

The Performance Measurement Mechanism
2013The Literature on performance measurement systems is abundant, although scholars have not achieved a consensus on which performance measurement framework better fits the different contexts in which the firms operate. This Chapter first addresses the role of the performance measurement in the performance management system and analyses the ...

Mechanical constraints on Nordic ski performance
Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, 1992Skiers, coaches, and sports scientists must work within mechanical constraints to improve performance. If Nordic skiing is to be improved by mechanical means, it will be achieved by affecting one or more of the major constraints: gravity, mass, friction, aerodynamic or hydrodynamic lift and drag, and centripetal force.

Mechanical Functions of Performance
1986The development of a spatially related designing system has been seen to provide a basis for the understanding and evaluation of most engineering assembly problems. In such assemblies the individual piece-parts are related simply by the geometric relationships that occur by accident or are required by design.
