Amplatzer occlusion of paravalvular leak of mitral mechanical prosthesis following a reoperation for thrombosed mitral mechanical prosthesis [PDF]

open access: yesInteractive CardioVascular and Thoracic Surgery, 2008
We describe a case of a 46-year-old woman with dehiscence and paravalvular leak of a second-time replaced mitral mechanical prosthesis, successfully treated with Amplatzer occlusion of the paravalvular leak, thus avoiding a second reoperation and improving the patient's symptoms.

Mechanical versus biological valve prosthesis for surgical aortic valve replacement in patients with infective endocarditis [PDF]

open access: bronzeInteractive Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, 2019
OBJECTIVES The optimal choice of valve prosthesis in surgical aortic valve replacement for infective endocarditis (IE) is controversial. We studied outcomes after mechanical versus biological prosthetic valve surgical aortic valve replacement in IE ...

Mitral valve bioprosthesis is safer than mechanical mitral prosthesis in young women [PDF]

open access: goldHeart Surgery Forum, 2020
BACKGROUND The ultimate goal of mitral valve surgery in young women is to extend life expectancy and improve quality of life. Mitral valve replacement (MVR) prosthesis in middle-aged women is a difficult choice between the lifelong anticoagulation by ...
