Pore-Pressure Estimation by Use of Mechanical Specific Energy and Drilling Efficiency

SPE Drilling & Completion, 2017
Summary Estimates of formation pore pressure before and while drilling are important inputs for well planning and operational decision making. A method is proposed to determine pore pressure from a combination of downhole drilling-mechanics parameters and in-situ rock data with the concept of mechanical specific energy ...

Improved Calculation Model of Mechanical Specific Energy Based on Single-Cutter Rock-Breaking Mechanism

SPE Journal
Summary As oil and gas exploration progresses to ultradeep and 10 000-m depths, insufficient energy supply during rock breaking by downhole polycrystalline diamond compact (PDC) bits presents a critical challenge. Quantifying the energy consumed in PDC cutter/rock interactions is therefore essential for enhancing bit efficiency and ...

Method for Pore Pressure Estimation Using Mechanical Specific Energy and Drilling Efficiency

IADC/SPE Drilling Conference and Exhibition, 2016
Abstract Pre-drill prediction of formation pore pressure and pressure detection while drilling to recognize deviations from the expected pressure are important inputs for well planning and operational decision making. A method is proposed to determine pore pressure from a combination of downhole drilling mechanics ...

Effect of Specific Mechanical Energy on Properties of Extruded Protein‐Starch Mixtures

Cereal Chemistry, 2002
ABSTRACTThe effect of the specific mechanical energy (SME) during extrusion of a protein‐starch mixture was studied by analyzing the glass transition temperature (Tg) and starch gelatinization. We found that the SME values of 344 to 2108 kJ/kg did not significantly change the Tg of the product.

Modeling and Analyzing of Specific Mechanical Energy in Animal Feed Extrusion Process

Transactions of the ASABE, 2013
Abstract. A new mathematical model was proposed to describe the specific mechanical energy (SME) in the animal feed extrusion process based on dimensional analysis methodology (DAM). The effects of feed moisture content (21.3% to 29.7%), screw speed (140 to 240 rpm), and extrusion temperature (133°C to 167°C) on SME were studied by response surface ...
