Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Optimization of Operating Parameters for Minimum Mechanical Specific Energy in Drilling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Efficiency in drilling is measured by Mechanical Specific Energy (MSE). MSE is the measure of the amount of energy input required to remove a unit volume of rock, expressed in units of energy input divided by volume removed. It can be expressed mathematically in terms of controllable parameters; Weight on Bit, Torque, Rate of Penetration, and RPM.

Ballistic Transport at Uniform Temperature [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
A paradigm for isothermal, mechanical rectification of stochastic fluctuations is introduced in this paper. The central idea is to transform energy injected by random perturbations into rigid-body rotational kinetic energy.

Doppler cooling of a Coulomb crystal [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We study theoretically Doppler laser-cooling of a cluster of 2-level atoms confined in a linear ion trap. Using several consecutive steps of averaging we derive, from the full quantum mechanical master equation, an equation for the total mechanical ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Experimental Study on Mechanical Specific Energy Optimization in Axial–Torsional Coupled Impact Drilling

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Axial–torsional coupled impact drilling (ATCID) technology represents a promising solution for overcoming the drilling challenges posed by conglomerate formations, which are characterized by strong heterogeneity, high abrasiveness, and poor drillability.

Changes in the physical properties and specific mechanical energy of corn-mango peel extrudates

open access: yesCyTA - Journal of Food, 2020
A corn-mango peel blend was processed using a laboratory-scale single-screw extruder, which led to the determination of the apparent density, yellowness, and specific mechanical energy of the extrudate.

Relaxation dynamics of multi-level tunneling systems

open access: yes, 1996
A quantum mechanical treatment of an asymmetric double-well potential (DWP) interacting with a heat bath is presented for circumstances where the contribution of higher vibrational levels to the relaxation dynamics cannot be excluded from consideration ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.
