Persistent discharge or edema after endoscopic sinus surgery in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis is associated with a type 1 or 3 endotype

open access: yesInternational Forum of Allergy &Rhinology, Volume 13, Issue 1, Page 15-24, January 2023., 2023
Abstract Background Patients with chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) may have persistence of polyps, discharge, or edema after endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS). Inflammation in CRS can be classified into three endotypes, with the presence of polyps associated with the type 2 endotype.

Methodology for Interpretable Reinforcement Learning for Optimizing Mechanical Ventilation [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Mechanical ventilation is a critical life support intervention that delivers controlled air and oxygen to a patient's lungs, assisting or replacing spontaneous breathing. While several data-driven approaches have been proposed to optimize ventilator control strategies, they often lack interpretability and alignment with domain knowledge, hindering ...

Injectable pH Responsive Conductive Hydrogel for Intelligent Delivery of Metformin and Exosomes to Enhance Cardiac Repair after Myocardial Ischemia‐Reperfusion Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Injectable pH responsive conductive hydrogel for intelligent delivery of metformin and exosomes to alleviate myocardial ischemia‐reperfusion injury. The hydrogel responds to the weakly acidic microenvironment of ischemic injury and can significantly reduce the production of intracellular ROS and enhance cardiac conduction, thereby resisting apoptosis ...

Targeting Replication Fork Processing Synergizes with PARP Inhibition to Potentiate Lethality in Homologous Recombination Proficient Ovarian Cancers

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that the resveratrol analogue, trans‐4,4′‐dihydroxystilbene (DHS), exhibits synergistic anti‐tumor activity with the PARP inhibitor talazoparib, inducing significant ovarian cancer cell death. The synergistic effect of this combination arises from the concurrent downregulation of homologous recombination factors and the ...

Clinical Practice Guidelines for Early Weaning from Mechanical Ventilation.

open access: yesMedisur, 2009
Clinical Practice Guidelines for Early Weaning from Mechanical Ventilation. Weaning is the process, gradual or rapid, that leads to the turn off of mechanical ventilation and allows restoring spontaneous ventilation. The guidelines describe the procedure

“What knob is this?” – Intensive care unit ventilation for the non-intensivist [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Indications for intensive care unit (ICU) mechanical ventilation differ from those for intraoperative mechanical ventilation. Always, the fundamental goal is the provision of life-sustaining oxygen saturation, with the avoidance of ventilator-induced ...

PRMT1 Ablation in Endothelial Cells Causes Endothelial Dysfunction and Aggravates COPD Attributable to Dysregulated NF‐κB Signaling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study investigates the role of protein arginine methyltransferase 1 (PRMT1) in endothelial cells (ECs) in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Mice with endothelial‐specific PRMT1 deletion develop pulmonary hemorrhage, inflammation, and apoptosis, driven by excessive nuclear factor kappa B activation.
