Mechanical balance laws for fully nonlinear and weakly dispersive water waves [PDF]

open access: yesPhysica D: Nonlinear Phenomena, 2016
The Serre-Green-Naghdi system is a coupled, fully nonlinear system of dispersive evolution equations which approximates the full water wave problem. The system is an extension of the well known shallow-water system to the situation where the waves are long, but not so long that dispersive effects can be neglected.

Splitting of waves in rotor-in-rotor nonlocal metamaterials by internal rotor coupling

open access: yesMaterials & Design, 2022
Mechanical metamaterials can be used to control wave propagation because they are flexibly adjustable. In this paper, a one-dimensional rotor-in-rotor metamaterial with internal rotor coupling is proposed.

Inspection of Multilayer Pipes Using Longitudinal Guided Waves [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences
Currently, Multilayer pipes are increasingly preferred over single-layer alternatives due to their enhanced mechanical and chemical properties. This research establishes governing equations for longitudinal guided wave propagation in multilayered pipes ...

First Principle Study of the Mechanical Properties and Phonon Dispersion of the Iron Pnictide Compound EuFe2As2

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2020
We present results on the first principle study of the elastic constants and the phonon dispersion of EuFe2As2 at zero pressure. The ground-state energy calculations were performed within Density Functional Theory (DFT) and the generalized gradient ...

Numerical and Experimental Investigation of Guided Wave Propagation in a Multi-Wire Cable

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
Ultrasonic guided waves (UGWs) have attracted attention in the nondestructive testing and structural health monitoring (SHM) of multi-wire cables. They offer such advantages as a single measurement, wide coverage of the acoustic field, and long-range ...

Lamb wave dispersion ultrasound vibrometry (LDUV) method for quantifying mechanical properties of viscoelastic solids [PDF]

open access: yesPhysics in Medicine and Biology, 2011
Diastolic dysfunction is the inability of the left ventricle to supply sufficient stroke volumes under normal physiological conditions and is often accompanied by stiffening of the left-ventricular myocardium. A noninvasive technique capable of quantifying viscoelasticity of the myocardium would be beneficial in clinical settings.

Modified wave equation for spinless particles and its solutions in an external magnetic field

open access: yes, 2013
The wave equation for spinless particles with the Lorentz violating term is considered. We formulate the third-order in derivatives wave equation leading to the modified dispersion relation.
