An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Identification of CNOT1-CCR4-NOT as a suppressor of 53BP1-p53-p21 signaling

open access: yesCell Reports
Summary: Tumor suppressor p53 has inherent propensities to self-associate, which can lead to oncogenic p53 aggregation. The genome caretaker 53BP1 interacts with p53, forms DNA damage-associated condensates, and has been implicated in p53 activation ...

Construction of a novel brittleness index equation and analysis of anisotropic brittleness characteristics for unconventional shale formations

open access: yesPetroleum Science, 2019
The brittleness prediction of shale formations is of interest to researchers nowadays. Conventional methods of brittleness prediction are usually based on isotropic models while shale is anisotropic.

Microscopic mechanisms of magnetization reversal

open access: yes, 2004
Two principal scenarios of magnetization reversal are considered. In the first scenario all spins perform coherent motion and an excess of magnetic energy directly goes to a nonmagnetic thermal bath. A general dynamic equation is derived which includes a

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

The dynamics and functional impact of tRNA repertoires during early embryogenesis in zebrafish

open access: yesThe EMBO Journal
Embryogenesis entails dramatic shifts in mRNA translation and turnover that reprogram gene expression during cellular proliferation and differentiation.

Hypoxia- and MicroRNA-Induced Metabolic Reprogramming of Tumor-Initiating Cells

open access: yesCells, 2019
Colorectal cancer (CRC), the second most common cause of cancer mortality in the Western world, is a highly heterogeneous disease that is driven by a rare subpopulation of tumorigenic cells, known as cancer stem cells (CSCs) or tumor-initiating cells ...

Basic Mechanisms of Solar Variability [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
In order to simulate the behavior of a changing Sun in a realistic way, researchers have used a perturbation analysis (the results are summarized in Endal et al. 1985).

PICALM::MLLT10 translocated leukemia

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This comprehensive review of PICALM::MLLT10 translocated acute leukemia provides an in‐depth review of the structure and function of CALM, AF10, and the fusion oncoprotein (1). The multifaceted molecular mechanisms of oncogenesis, including nucleocytoplasmic shuttling (2), epigenetic modifications (3), and disruption of endocytosis (4), are then ...
