A 1,3‐Indandione‐Functionalized Tetraphenylethene: Aggregation‐Induced Emission, Solvatochromism, Mechanochromism, and Potential Application as a Multiresponsive Fluorescent Probe [PDF]

open access: yesChemistry - A European Journal, 2014
A tetraphenylethene (TPE) derivative substituted with the electron-acceptor 1,3-indandione (IND) group was designed and prepared. The targeted IND-TPE reserves the intrinsic aggregation-induced emission (AIE) property of the TPE moiety.

Reversible Mechanochromism of a Luminescent Elastomer

ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, 2013
A novel mechanochromic elastomer was manufactured by doping bis(benzoxazolyl)stibene (BBS) into a thermoplastic polyurethane. Both solution casting and melt compounding approaches were tried with a range of BBS concentrations, and an optimal concentration of 0.5% was selected to investigate the mechanochromic mechanism in detail.

A mechanochromic smart material

Polymer Bulletin, 1993
A mechanochromic polyurethane elastomer was synthesized and demonstrated. Azobenzene chromophores were introduced into a copolyamide oligomer to provide conformational latches which stabilized thecis-azobenzenes by the formation of intramolecular hydrogen bonds. The copolyamide oligomer was chemically inserted into a polyurethane copolymer.

Mechanochromic Organic Micro‐Laser

Angewandte Chemie International Edition
AbstractThis work presents the first demonstration of a mechanochromic organic micro‐laser, which exhibits remarkable wide range pressure sensing characteristics. The gain material, pinacolato boronate ester functionalized anthanthrene (AnBPin), is designed by incorporating mechanofluorochromic (MFC) properties into organic laser dye.

Mechanochromic polymer blends

Journal of Materials Chemistry, 2011
Mechanochromic polymer blends, i.e. polymer blends characterised by optical responsiveness to mechanical stimuli, have evoked major interest and experienced significant progress in recent years. Various examples are reported of chromogenic materials composed of a functional dye covalently linked to the polymer chains or physically dispersed in the ...

Solvatochromism and mechanochromism observed in a triphenylamine derivative

Acta Crystallographica Section B Structural Science, Crystal Engineering and Materials, 2019
A donor–π–acceptor fluorescent dye, 4-[N,N-di(4-phenyl)amino]benzaldehyde 4-chlorobenzoyl hydrazone (TPA-CBH), based on a triphenylamine derivative (TPA) and 4-chlorobenzoyl hydrazine (CBH) was designed and synthesized. The optical properties of this luminogen were investigated in solutions as well as in the solid states.

Mechanochromic Luminescence of Fluorenyl‐Substituted Ethylenes

Chemistry – An Asian Journal, 2014
AbstractIt has been reported several times that some organic luminogens with aggregation‐induced emission (AIE) characteristics exhibit the abnormal phenomenon of crystallization‐induced blueshift fluorescence, which makes them suitable for utilization as luminescence color‐switching materials.

Luminescent Mechanochromic Porous Coordination Polymers

Chemistry – A European Journal, 2014
AbstractThree 2D luminescent isomeric porous coordination polymers are synthesized and characterized. Their luminescence properties can be modified by grinding and they can act as mechanochromic materials and their properties are probably related to the weak interactions of cuprophilicity and π–π interactions.

Mechanochromic Chameleon Packaging Based on Polydiacetylene

ACS Sensors
We demonstrated a mechanochromic chameleon packaging that quantitatively visualizes damage based on the polydiacetylene blue-to-red color transition. The applied pressures on the damage can be conveniently read by taking a photograph via a homemade mobile app called the "Pressure Analysis App".
