Microbiota of the first‐pass meconium and subsequent atopic and allergic disorders in children [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
BACKGROUND: Some cohort studies have suggested that gut microbiota composition is associated with allergic diseases in children. The microbiota of the first‐pass meconium, which forms before birth, represents the first gut microbiota that is easily ...

A rich meconium metabolome in human infants is associated with early-life gut microbiota composition and reduced allergic sensitization

open access: yesCell Reports Medicine, 2021
Summary: Microbiota maturation and immune development occur in parallel with, and are implicated in, allergic diseases, and research has begun to demonstrate the importance of prenatal influencers on both.

Meconium Peritonitis [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Perinatology, 2000
Meconium peritonitis can have a wide range of presentations. This report discusses two cases that have recently appeared in our neonatal intensive care unit. The first report discusses the case of a meconium pseudocyst in a preterm infant. The second case reports on a newborn baby with a healed bowel perforation during the prenatal period.

Petroleum and Chlorinated Solvents in Meconium and the Risk of Hypospadias: A Pilot Study

open access: yesFrontiers in Pediatrics, 2021
Background: Hypospadias is a male congenital malformation that occurs in ~2 of 1,000 births. The association between hypospadias and fetal exposure to environmental chemicals has been studied, but the results are inconsistent.

A Review: Composition of Neonatal Meconium Microbiota and Its Role for Potential Probiotic

open access: yesPharmaceutical Sciences and Research, 2021
Early-life period (≤ 1 month after birth) is critical for determining long- and short-term health of neonates. Composition of neonates’ gut microbiota varies greatly between individuals whose development is influenced by various factors including ...

Viscosity and Origin of Meconium in Meconium Ileus.

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1958
Summary1) Meconium from a patient with meconium ileus has been studied electrophoretically, revealing presence of albumin and of smaller amounts of other proteins with mobilities corresponding to α and β globulin. The identity of albumin was established by immunochemical and physical methods.

The Composition of the Microbiota in the Full-Term Fetal Gut and Amniotic Fluid: A Bovine Cesarean Section Study

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2021
The development of a healthy intestinal immune system requires early microbial exposure. However, it remains unclear whether microbial exposure already begins at the prenatal stage.

Meconium Proteins and Mucoproteins in Meconium Ileus

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1968
SummaryQualitative and quantitative profiles were established for 14 proteins and mucoproteins in meconium from meconium ileus and control subjects. Three of these substances were found in both meconiums, at different concentrations. The abnormal meconium characteristically contained 6 and lacked 5 proteins and mucoproteins.
