Application of Symmetric Hyperbolic Systems for the Time-Dependent Maxwell's Equations in Bi-Anisotropic Media

open access: yesComputer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, 2011
The time-dependent Maxwell's equations in non-dispersive homogeneous bi-anisotropic materials are considered in the paper. These equations are written as a symmetric hyperbolic system. A new method of the computation of the electric and magnetic fields arising from electric current is suggested in the paper. This method consists of the following.

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

Rough set based intelligent approach for identification of H1N1 suspect using social media

open access: yesKuwait Journal of Science, 2018
Social media data offer unique challenges and opportunities for monitoring and surveillance of public health. The identification of epidemic suspect depends on doctor’s experience, symptoms and laboratory tests.

Emergence of Shear Bands in Confined Granular Systems: Singularity of the q-Statistics

open access: yesEntropy, 2018
The statistics of grain displacements probability distribution function (pdf) during the shear of a granular medium displays an unusual dependence with the shear increment upscaling as recently evinced (see “experimental validation of a ...

Cell geometry and membrane protein crowding constrain Escherichia coli growth rate, overflow metabolism, respiration, and maintenance energy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The physical dimensions and shape of bacterial cells define the surface area available to acquire nutrients and the volume available for synthesizing proteins and DNA. Here, we use computational systems biology to decode the importance of cell geometry as a major determinant of prokaryotic phenotype, including growth rate and metabolic efficiency. This

Media dependency and political perceptions in an authoritarian political system: The case of Chile\u27s left

open access: yes, 1992
This study has been an attempt to assess the relation between media dependency and political perceptions in an authoritarian political system. Chile was considered an appropriate case to study some aspects of this problem. The country had been ruled by a
