The Effect of the Lapidus Arthrodesis on the Medial Longitudinal Arch: A Radiographic Review
Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery, 2008We reviewed the medical records and radiographs of 35 patients (3 males, 32 females; mean age 40.8 years) who underwent isolated, modified Lapidus arthrodesis for forefoot pathology in 39 feet. The purpose of the review was to evaluate the structural radiographic changes of the medial longitudinal arch (MLA) following isolated arthrodesis of the first ...

Measurement of the medial longitudinal arch
Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, 1995Although clinical evidence suggests a causal relationship between arch structure and musculoskeletal injury patterns, biological variations in soft-tissue structures effect the accuracy of arch-height measurements. Medial longitudinal arch (MLA) structure was assessed clinically and radiographically in 100 consecutive patients with foot problems ...

Intrinsic pedal musculature support of the medial longitudinal arch: an electromyography study
Much of the work describing support of the medial longitudinal arch has focused on the plantar fascia and the extrinsic muscles. There is little research concerning the function of intrinsic muscles in the maintenance of the medial longitudinal arch. Ten healthy volunteer adults served as subjects for this study, which was approved by the University ...

Comparison of feet shapes during gait between low group and normal group of medial longitudinal arch [PDF]
We classified the subjects into the normal arch group and the lower arch group, and compared the configuration changes of medial longitudinal arch as well as the ground reaction forces during gait movement. As for the subjects, which numbered 12 in total,

Medial Longitudinal Arch Balanced Analysis of the Calibration [PDF]
We analyzed how insole affects the dynamic stability and the balance while a body moves or stops. Specially we've sorted out variations of individual balance ability while we make a longitudinal arch stop artificially as a usual situation(just standing and putting one’s weight). We found ten men and girls each with suitable feet for our experimentation

The Relationship Between the Hindfoot Angle and the Medial Longitudinal Arch of the Foot
Foot & Ankle International, 2006Introduction: The relationship of hindfoot valgus and the medial longitudinal arch (MLA) is a well-known parameter for the evaluation of the foot deformities. In this study, we evaluated the relationship between the hindfoot angle and the MLA and the effect of these parameters on the development and general joint laxity of the subjects.

Proximal Medial Longitudinal Arch Incision for Plantar Fascia Release
Foot & Ankle, 1987A curved, oblique plantar incision in the proximal aspect in the medial longitudinal arch was used to release the plantar fascia in eight feet with recalcitrant plantar fasciitis. Seven feet became pain free and the eighth was 75% improved. Normal sensation to the heel was preserved in all cases.

Relationship Between Explosive Muscle Strength and Medial Longitudinal Arch of the Foot
Foot and Ankle International, 2010Background: There has been a suggested link between muscle strength and arch type of the foot. However, a distinct cause and effect dependence has yet to be established. The purpose of this study was to compare the outcomes from selected explosive strength tests with different arch heights.

Height of the Medial Longitudinal Arch during Classical Ballet Steps
Journal of Dance Medicine & Science, 2017The purpose of this study was to evaluate the midfoot longitudinal arch height and correlate it with active hip external rotation (ER) in dancers during static postures and technical steps of classical ballet (i.e., first position, demi-plié, battement fondu à la seconde, pas jeté à la seconde, and grand jeté à la seconde).
