The anatomy and reconstruction of the medial patellofemoral ligament
The Knee, 2003Reconstruction of the MPFL for recurrent and acute lateral dislocation of the patella is becoming more accepted. This study aimed to further define the medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) anatomy and to describe the most suitable sites for graft attachment when reconstructing the MPFL.Anatomical dissection was performed on 25 embalmed knee specimens.

Medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction for subluxating patellofemoral arthroplasty
The Knee, 2011Patellofemoral joint (PFJ) arthroplasty has become a successful operation for patellofemoral osteoarthritis. The post-operative complication of patella subluxation is uncommon. We report the stabilisation of a subluxating patella following PFJ arthroplasty using autogenous hamstring tendons.

Medial Patellofemoral Ligament Reconstruction
Operative Techniques in Sports Medicine, 2019Medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction (MPFLr) is the most frequent surgical procedure performed in patients with chronic lateral patellar instability (CLPI). Depending on the fixation technique used, there are 2 types of MPFLr: the static and the dynamic.

Similar to other ligamentous reconstructions around the knee, medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstructions can lead to complications. These complications relate to a lack of understanding of the biomechanics of the MPFL ligament and technical errors made during the reconstruction.

Medial Patellofemoral Ligament Reconstruction
Operative Techniques in Sports Medicine, 2010Medial patellofemoral reconstruction is used to treat episodic lateral patellar instability that is due to laxity of medial retinacular patellar stabilizers. The ideal candidate has minimal pain between episodes of patellar instability, and seeks medical care primarily to address the occasional dislocation or subluxation.

Medial Patellofemoral Ligament Repair
Operative Techniques in Sports Medicine, 2019Medial patellofemoral ligament repair (MPFL) represents an alternative method of medial soft tissue management in patients with lateral patellar instability. MPFL repair is best indicated in patients with isolated patellar- or femoral-based avulsions, which can be identified on preoperative MRI.

Medial Patellofemoral Ligament Reconstruction
Techniques in Orthopaedics, 1997Summary:Recurrent lateral dislocation of the patella is usually treated with some combination of lateral release, proximal realignment or medial reefing, and distal realignment. Significant problems with redislocation and anterior knee pain after surgical intervention may be caused in part by poor ...

Medial patellofemoral ligament
Current Opinion in Pediatrics, 2014Traumatic and nontraumatic patellofemoral instability (PFI) in children and adolescents is a complex problem. It is determined by a large number of mechanical and pathomorphologic conditions, mainly seen in nontraumatic dislocations.Although conservative treatment with a short immobilization, followed by early passive motion and isometric quadriceps ...

Medial Patellofemoral Ligament (MPFL) Reconstruction for the Treatment of Patellofemoral Instability
Journal of Knee Surgery, 2013Patellofemoral instability can be a disabling problem. Numerous techniques are employed for its treatment. Medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction in combination with other procedures has been explored by many orthopedic surgeons. The purpose of the study was to determine the effectiveness of isolated MPFL reconstruction in treating the ...

A new technique for reconstructing the medial patellofemoral ligament
The Knee, 2005Many surgical techniques exist for treating patella instability. Over recent years, attention has focussed on reconstruction of the medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL). We report a procedure involving a lateral release, distal realignment of the tibial tubercle and anatomic reconstruction of the MPFL using a graft composed of a redundant strip of ...
