Severe Supravalvular Aortic Stenosis Treated With Double Patch Aortoplasty: A Case Report

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 2, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Severe supravalvular aortic stenosis in a young patient is a rare but critical condition requiring timely diagnosis and intervention. We report a 15‐year‐old girl presenting with exertional dyspnea, chest pain, and palpitations. Echocardiography and multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) confirmed severe supravalvular aortic stenosis ...

Deep sternal wound infections: Evidence for prevention, treatment, and reconstructive surgery

open access: yesArchives of Plastic Surgery, 2019
Median sternotomy is the most popular approach in cardiac surgery. Post-sternotomy wound complications are rare, but the occurrence of a deep sternal wound infection (DSWI) is a catastrophic event associated with higher morbidity and mortality, longer ...

Safety and Efficacy of Pulsed Field Ablation for Atrial Fibrillation in Elderly Patients

open access: yesJournal of Arrhythmia, Volume 42, Issue 1, February 2026.
Pulsed‐field ablation (PFA) was evaluated in 479 patients with atrial fibrillation (AF), 52% paroxysmal. Among 104 patients > 75 years, complication rates and 6‐ and 12‐month arrhythmia‐free survival were not significantly different from younger patients. Age did not predict recurrence. PFA appears safe and effective in elderly AF patients.

Full median sternotomy approach for treatment of upper thoracic vertebral tuberculosis in a developing country: case report and short literature review

open access: yesThe Pan African Medical Journal, 2017
Direct anterior approach to the cervicothoracic spine (C7-T4) poses a technical challenge in neurosurgery, due to the presence of important neurovascular structures anterior to the cervicothoracic junction (CTJ).

Brachial plexus injury following median sternotomy [PDF]

open access: yesInteractive CardioVascular and Thoracic Surgery, 2006
Brachial plexus injury is a rare complication after median sternotomy. We investigated that injury to the brachial plexus was retrospectively assessed in the results of three patients who underwent median sternotomy for open heart surgery. All patients were placed in the hands-up position after right internal jugular vein cannulation, and the internal ...

The Sternal Management Accelerated Recovery Trial (S.M.A.R.T) – standard restrictive versus an intervention of modified sternal precautions following cardiac surgery via median sternotomy: study protocol for a randomised controlled trial

open access: yesTrials, 2017
BackgroundThe routine implementation of sternal precautions to prevent sternal complications that restrict the use of the upper limbs is currently worldwide practice following a median sternotomy.

Outcomes of Pulsed Field Versus Cryoballoon Ablation in Atrial Fibrillation: A Comprehensive Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesJournal of Arrhythmia, Volume 42, Issue 1, February 2026.
The key findings of this meta‐analysis are as follows: (1) PFA was associated with a significantly shorter duration compared to the CBA group, (2) PFA was associated with a significantly lower rate of arrhythmia recurrence compared with CBA. Yet, the rate of redo ablation did not differ significantly between both groups, (3) The overall complication ...
