A Novel Mediastinal Drainage Tube for Mediastinitis

open access: yesThe Korean Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 2015
Mediastinitis is a life-threatening disease, and effective drainage is needed to treat mediastinitis with abscess formation. We recommend an alternative drainage method using chest tube binding with a Silastic Penrose drainage tube. The use of a Silastic Penrose drainage tube may help to manage mediastinitis with abscess formation.

Mediastinal hibernoma [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, 1999
A 46-year-old asymptomatic male was detected to have a posterior mediastinal mass on a routine check-up. He underwent thoracotomy to remove the mass, which was found to be a hibernoma. The mediastinum is an extremely rare site for an even rarer tumor like the hibernoma.
