Nonplatelet-mediated effects of aspirin

Drugs of Today, 2002
Aspirin has nonplatelet-mediated effects that contribute to its efficacy in the primary and secondary prevention of coronary events. These include antiarrhythmic effects, as shown in animal studies, and antiatherosclerotic effects related to increase in nitric oxide synthesis/activity and reduction in inflammatory mediators.

The Surprising Effectiveness of Hostile Mediators

Management Science, 2017
Contrary to the tendency of mediators to defuse negative emotions between adversaries by treating them kindly, we demonstrate the surprising effectiveness of hostile mediators in resolving conflict. Hostile mediators generate greater willingness to reach agreements between adversaries (Experiment 1).

The Effective Mediator

Journal of Professional Issues in Engineering Education and Practice, 2006
Mediation is becoming the premier method of resolving disputes within the construction industry. The linchpin to the mediation process is the mediator. An effective mediator may make the difference between mediation success or failure. Yet, considering the importance of an effective mediator, there is a dearth of information as to the attributes of one

To Effect a Mediation

The Journal of Higher Education, 1943
I HAVE read with interest the proposal for a truce between academic-scientific and professional education which Mr. Stimmel makes in the January issue of this journal.' As a member of the so-called educator group who has also studied on the graduate level in an academic field and who has taught in this field as well as in education, I can appreciate Mr.

Statistical assessment of mediational effects for logistic mediational models

Statistics in Medicine, 2004
AbstractThe concept of mediation has broad applications in medical health studies. Although the statistical assessment of a mediational effect under the normal assumption has been well established in linear structural equation models (SEM), it has not been extended to the general case where normality is not a usual assumption. In this paper, we propose

Cardiac Effects of the Mediators of Sepsis

1992
Like other forms of acute circulatory failure, septic shock is characterized by an imbalance between oxygen demand and oxygen supply. As a result, tissue hypoxia occurs, as reflected by the development of anaerobic metabolism and elevated blood lactate levels.

Is the Antiproteinuric Effect of Dipyridamole Hemodynamically Mediated?

Nephron, 2008
We studied the acute antiproteinuric and renal hemodynamic effect of dipyridamole 30–60 mg intravenously in 13 salt-depleted patients with the nephrotic syndrome of different etiology. Whereas mean arterial pressure did not change, a small fall in glomerular filtration rate with a concomitant fall in filtration fraction and a decrease in urinary ...

Effects of phenytoin on cell-mediated immunity

Cancer Immunology Immunotherapy, 1988
The effects of phenytoin on cellular immunity were examined in murine models. Fresh splenocytes were obtained from mice which had received 1 mg/day of phenytoin i.p. for 28 days. The serum concentration of phenytoin in these animals was 10-20 micrograms/ml. The proliferative response of splenocytes to mitogens was assessed by 3H-thymidine incorporation.

Promoting Effective Workplace Mediation

2016
Initial research on workplace mediation focused on styles and tactics a mediator should use to conduct a successful mediation. Attention has shifted to the question which strategies and tactics are most appropriate and effective given certain mediation situations, organizational circumstances, and dispute as well as disputant characteristics.

The role of mediators for the pretesting effect

Memory
Taking a pretest (e.g., smoke - ?) before material is studied (smoke - fog) can improve later recall of that material, compared to material which was initially only studied. The goal of the present study was to evaluate for this pretesting effect the potential role of semantic mediators, i.e., of unstudied information that is semantically related to ...
