Expert Wine Tasting as a Social Practice: An Enactive Ethnography

open access: yesSociologica, 2019
The present contribution uses the theoretical framework of theories of practice to examine expert wine tasting. This paper highlights a number of sociologically interesting issues that have been previously conceptualised in the literature, trying to ...

Mechanisms and kinetic assays of aminoacyl‐tRNA synthetases

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Accurate protein synthesis is crucial for life. The key players are aminoacyl‐tRNA synthetases (AARSs), which read the genetic code by pairing cognate amino acids and tRNAs. AARSs establish high amino acid selectivity by employing physicochemical limits in molecular recognition.

Mediation analysis with graph mediator

open access: yesBiostatistics
Summary This study introduces a mediation analysis framework when the mediator is a graph. A Gaussian covariance graph model is assumed for graph presentation. Causal estimands and assumptions are discussed under this presentation. With a covariance matrix as the mediator, a low-rank representation is introduced and parametric mediation ...

The epithelial barrier theory proposes a comprehensive explanation for the origins of allergic and other chronic noncommunicable diseases

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Exposure to common noxious agents (1), including allergens, pollutants, and micro‐nanoplastics, can cause epithelial barrier damage (2) in our body's protective linings. This may trigger an immune response to our microbiome (3). The epithelial barrier theory explains how this process can lead to chronic noncommunicable diseases (4) affecting organs ...

Mendelian randomisation for mediation analysis: current methods and challenges for implementation

open access: yesbioRxiv, 2019
Background Mendelian randomisation uses genetic variants randomly allocated at conception as instrumental variables for a modifiable exposure of interest.

Mediation an Schulen [PDF]

open access: yesPraxis Der Kinderpsychologie Und Kinderpsychiatrie, 2006

Plant mediator [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Signaling & Behavior, 2010
Jasmonate (JA) signaling plays an important role in regulating both plant defense and development. We have recently reported that the phytochrome and flowering time1 (PFT1) gene, which encodes the mediator25 subunit of the plant Mediator complex, is a key regulator of JA regulated transcription.

From omics to AI—mapping the pathogenic pathways in type 2 diabetes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Integrating multi‐omics data with AI‐based modelling (unsupervised and supervised machine learning) identify optimal patient clusters, informing AI‐driven accurate risk stratification. Digital twins simulate individual trajectories in real time, guiding precision medicine by matching patients to targeted therapies.

ERBIN limits epithelial cell plasticity via suppression of TGF‐β signaling

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In breast and lung cancer patients, low ERBIN expression correlates with poor clinical outcomes. Here, we show that ERBIN inhibits TGF‐β‐induced epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in NMuMG breast and A549 lung adenocarcinoma cell lines. ERBIN suppresses TGF‐β/SMAD signaling and reduces TGF‐β‐induced ERK phosphorylation.
