Microplastic and drought influenced plant diversity–biomass relationships in a glasshouse grassland experiment. Microplastic reduced the shoot biomass of grasses and legumes, weakening the positive selection effects. In contrast, drought strongly suppressed the shoot biomass of legumes, resulting in negative complementarity and a negative net diversity

This study provides global‐scale evidence that the naturalization of European herbaceous species is related to specific germination traits acquired in the native range. The findings indicate that traits such as high germinability, low stratification requirements and responsiveness to scarification act as preadaptations that facilitate naturalization by

Commodity risk assessment of Vitis spp. plants from Moldova
Abstract The European Commission requests EFSA to provide scientific opinions in the field of plant health in accordance with Article 29 of Regulation (EC) No 178/2002. Annex VI of Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2019/2072 lists plants, plant products and other objects whose introduction into the Union from certain third countries is prohibited.

Grazing and cover crop effects on soil health during transition to organic production
Abstract The authors studied the efficacy of six objective‐based, reduced tillage cover cropping systems with or without livestock grazing to induce changes in soil condition and soil health on a fine sandy loam during the organic transition phase in the northern Great Plains.

Diversity and assembly of the microbiome of a leguminous plant along an urbanization gradient
Interactions between plants and bacterial communities are essential for host physiology and broader ecosystem functioning, but plant–microbiome interactions can be disrupted by environmental change like urbanization. Here, we evaluated how urbanization affected the diversity and assembly of soil and white clover Trifolium repens microbiome communities.

Wheat Mixtures as an Effective Option for Weed Management in Organic Farming
ABSTRACT In organic cereal cropping systems, crop diversification has emerged as an environmentally friendly strategy for weed management. However, the role of crop mixtures in weed regulation, particularly in Mediterranean conditions, has been largely overlooked.

Preemergent Control of Common Vetch (Vicia sativa L.) and Black Medic (Medicago lupulina L.) [PDF]
Abstract Preemergence applied herbicides, Barricade 65 WDG (prodiamine), Derby 5G (metolachlor + simazine), Pendulum 60 WDG (pendimethalin), Snapshot DF (isoxaben + oryzalin), and Snapshot TG (isoxaben + trifluralin) were evaluated for control of common vetch (Vicia sativa L.) and black medic (Medicago lupulina L.) in 2.5 liter (0.7 gal ...

Abstract Premise Understanding how disturbance regimes influence temperate grasslands is crucial for adapting management strategies to climate change, particularly in response to the loss of winters. The interaction between disturbance and climate can alter winter soil insulation and potentially the plant community.

We examined the potential negative impact of a range‐expanding neonative annual plant species, Xeranthemum cylindraceum, in grasslands of its new range. Our results preclude the negative impact on grassland biodiversity and confirm the reactive nature of this species. Mass presence of this unpalatable species in pastures indicates overuse, which should

Comparing the impacts of patch‐burn grazing on vegetation in two northern tallgrass prairies
We evaluated two of the earliest and largest patch‐burn grazing projects in the eastern tallgrass prairie of Minnesota, an ecosystem that has undergone extensive fragmentation and invasion by non‐native species. Our results in grazed and ungrazed plots varied with differences in stocking rate and fire frequency.
