The defensive role of trichomes in black medick (Medicago lupulina, Fabaceae)
Plant Systematics and Evolution, 1993Simple and gland-tipped trichomes occur in varying proportions in the cosmopolitan weed black medick (Medicago lupulina L.). Densities of both simple and glandtipped trichomes were separately negatively correlated with the amount of damage to leaves in herbarium collections from throughout the world.

Effect of Microtopography on the Survival and Reproduction of Medicago Lupulina
The Journal of Ecology, 1985(1) The density of Medicago lupulina, a short-lived perennial herb, decreased from the top (ridge) to the bottom (hollow) of shallow depressions (0-5-1-m deep) in an abandoned pasture in southern Ontario, Canada. To explain this density gradient we compared the survival and reproduction of plants on ridges with those in hollows.
