Intra-hospital transport of adult critically ill patients treated with high flow nasal cannula oxygen: a prospective observational multicenter study

open access: yesAnnals of Intensive Care
Background: Acute respiratory failure is a common reason for admission to the intensive care unit, and patients are frequently treated with high-flow nasal cannula oxygen therapy (HFNC).

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Renal replacement therapy in an intensive care unit: guidelines from the SRLF-GFRUP consensus conference

open access: yesAnnals of Intensive Care
Background: Although largely used, the place of extracorporeal renal replacement therapy (RRT) in acute kidney injury (AKI) in intensive care unit (ICU) patients has yet to be clarified. The French Intensive Care Society (Société de Réanimation de Langue

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Immunosuppressive therapy management during sepsis in kidney transplant recipients: a prospective multicenter study

open access: yesAnnals of Intensive Care
Background: Sepsis is the leading cause of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) admissions in kidney transplant recipients (KTRs). However, the optimal immunosuppressive therapy (IST) management in this context is not well-defined.

Epidemiology of hepatitis B, C and D in Malawi: Systematic review 11 Medical and Health Sciences 1117 Public Health and Health Services 11 Medical and Health Sciences 1108 Medical Microbiology 11 Medical and Health Sciences 1103 Clinical Sciences

open access: yes, 2018
Background: Viral hepatitis is an important public health issue in sub-Saharan Africa. Due to rising mortality from cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma and limited implementation of screening and treatment programmes, it has been characterised as a neglected tropical disease.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Diagnostic yield and adverse events of liver biopsy in intensive-care-unit patients: a multicenter retrospective observational cohort study

open access: yesAnnals of Intensive Care
Background: To investigate the adverse events, diagnostic yield, and therapeutic implications of liver biopsy in intensive-care-unit (ICU) patients. Methods: Retrospective observational multicenter cohort study.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Contact precautions prevent cross-contamination of extended-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing Enterobacterales in an intensive care unit: a prospective observational study

open access: yesAnnals of Intensive Care
Background: The spread of multidrug-resistant microorganisms (MDROs), including extended-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing Enterobacterales (ESBL-E), has increased worldwide and constitutes a significant public health challenge.
