Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

ABL kinase‐dependent phosphorylation of SH proteins promotes their direct interaction with CRK family SH2 domains

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
CT10 regulator of kinase (CRK) and CRK‐Like (CRKL) are signaling adaptors driving cell adhesion, motility, differentiation, and proliferation. SH2‐domain containing (SH) proteins are enriched in YXXP motifs which when phosphorylated create preferred binding sites for CRK family SH2 domains.

Investigating transcription factor dynamics in health and disease using FRAP

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
FRAP analysis of GFP‐tagged transcription factors reveals how molecular mobility and target engagement change in response to drug treatment. By combining live‐cell imaging, quantitative model fitting, and statistical analysis, this approach uncovers transcription factor dynamics linked to disease mechanisms, providing a powerful framework for ...

Super resolution reconstruction for medical image based on adaptive multi-dictionary learning and structural self-similarity

open access: yesComputer Assisted Surgery, 2019
To improve the quality of the super-resolution (SR) reconstructed medical images, an improved adaptive multi-dictionary learning method is proposed, which uses the combined information of medical image itself and the natural images database.

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Reviewing CAM-Based Deep Explainable Methods in Healthcare

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The use of artificial intelligence within the healthcare sector is consistently growing. However, the majority of deep learning-based AI systems are of a black box nature, causing these systems to suffer from a lack of transparency and credibility.

MAAUNet: Exploration of U-shaped encoding and decoding structure for semantic segmentation of medical image

open access: yesJournal of Measurement Science and Instrumentation, 2022
In view of the problems of multi-scale changes of segmentation targets, noise interference, rough segmentation results and slow training process faced by medical image semantic segmentation, a multi-scale residual aggregation U-shaped attention network ...

NFRs in Medical Imaging

open access: yesCoRR
The diagnostic imaging departments are under great pressure due to a growing workload. The number of required scans is growing and there is a shortage of qualified labor. AI solutions for medical imaging applications have shown great potential. However, very few diagnostic imaging models have been approved for hospital use and even fewer are being ...
