Dietary Protein Intake and Peritoneal Protein Losses in Peritoneal Dialysis Patients

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients lose protein in their waste dialysate, potentially increasing their risk for malnutrition. We wished to determine whether there was any association between losses and dietary protein intake (DPI). Methods DPI was assessed from 24‐h dietary recall using Nutrics software.

Serum Myonectin Levels Are Positively Associated With Physical Function and Lower Frailty‐Related Limitation in Maintenance Hemodialysis Patients: A Cross‐Sectional Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients frequently suffer from frailty, characterized by reduced physical function and poor prognosis. Myokines, such as myonectin, secreted by muscle, are emerging regulators of systemic health. This study investigated the relationship between serum myonectin, adipokines (adiponectin, omentin), and ...

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Comparison of prone versus supine position in assessment of small bowel and rectal dose in pelvic radiotherapy for carcinoma cervix

open access: yesAsian Journal of Medical Sciences
Background: Pelvic irradiation for cervical cancer is frequently associated with gastrointestinal and genitourinary toxicities due to radiation exposure to adjacent organs at risk (OAR).

Evaluation of 3D-CRT Radiotherapy Treatment Planning with Radiobiological Effects in Patient-Specific 3D Printed Anthropomorphic Phantom Postmastectomy Breast Cancer Axillary Metastases [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Medical Physics
Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate and measure the effectiveness of a particular radiotherapy treatment planning system, namely 3D conformal radiation therapy (3D-CRT), and radiobiological effects in postmastectomy breast cancer axillary

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Evaluation of segmentation accuracy and the improvement of time effectiveness using deep learning-based segmentation in 177Lu-DOTATATE dosimetry

open access: yesEJNMMI Physics
Background The efficacy of deep learning-based artificial intelligence segmentation (AI-seg) in 177Lu-DOTATATE dosimetry remains underexplored. This study evaluates AI-seg’s contouring accuracy, dosimetric reliability, and time efficiency.

Pulmonary Mucosa-Associated Lymphoid Tissue Lymphoma Treated with Radiation Therapy: A Case Report and Review of the Literature

open access: yesCase Reports in Oncology, 2023
Introduction: Mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma (MALT lymphoma or MALToma) is a prevalent type of primary pulmonary lymphoma. Typically, the primary therapeutic approaches involve surgery or chemotherapy, although there have been instances of ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
