Investigating the cell of origin and novel molecular targets in Merkel cell carcinoma: a historic misnomer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study indicates that Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) does not originate from Merkel cells, and identifies gene, protein & cellular expression of immune‐linked and neuroendocrine markers in primary and metastatic Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) tumor samples, linked to Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV) status, with enrichment of B‐cell and other immune cell

Gut microbiota diversity is prognostic in metastatic hormone receptor‐positive breast cancer patients receiving chemotherapy and immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this exploratory study, we investigated the relationship between the gut microbiota and outcome in patients with metastatic hormone receptor‐positive breast cancer, treated in a randomized clinical trial with chemotherapy alone or chemotherapy in combination with immune checkpoint blockade.

Patient‐specific pharmacogenomics demonstrates xCT as predictive therapeutic target in colon cancer with possible implications in tumor connectivity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study integrates transcriptomic profiling of matched tumor and healthy tissues from 32 colorectal cancer patients with functional validation in patient‐derived organoids, revealing dysregulated metabolic programs driven by overexpressed xCT (SLC7A11) and SLC3A2, identifying an oncogenic cystine/glutamate transporter signature linked to ...

Clinicians were oblivious to incorrect logging of test dates and the associated risks in an online pathology application: a case study

open access: yesJournal of Innovation in Health Informatics, 2013
Background UK primary care physicians receive their laboratory test results electronically. This study reports a computerised physician order entry (CPOE) system error in the pathology test request date that went unnoticed in family practices.Method We ...

A Computerized Medical Record “The Balsfjord System” [PDF]

open access: yesScandinavian Journal of Primary Health Care, 1984
The "Balsfjord system" is a fully computerized system of medical records. The system is developed by the University of Tromsö in cooperation with the district physicians in Balsfjord. It is designed for Norwegian general practice based on microcomputers. Each general practitioner has a computer terminal in his/her consulting room, and all the terminals

Feasibility of a ctDNA multigenic panel for non‐small‐cell lung cancer early detection and disease surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Plasma‐based detection of actionable mutations is a promising approach in lung cancer management. Analysis of ctDNA with a multigene NGS panel identified TP53, KRAS, and EGFR as the most frequently altered, with TP53 and KRAS in treatment‐naïve patients and TP53 and EGFR in previously treated patients.

An algorithm to improve diagnostic accuracy in diabetes in computerised problem orientated medical records (POMR) compared with an established algorithm developed in episode orientated records (EOMR)

open access: yesJournal of Innovation in Health Informatics, 2015
An algorithm that detects errors in diagnosis, classification or coding of diabetes in primary care computerised medial record (CMR) systems is currently available.  However, this was developed on CMR systems that are “Episode orientated” medical records
