Loss of proton‐sensing GPR4 reduces tumor progression in mouse models of colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
G protein‐coupled receptor 4 (GPR4) is a pH‐sensing receptor activated by acidic pH. GPR4 expression is increased in patients with inflammatory bowel disease who are at high risk of developing colorectal cancer. In mouse models, loss of GPR4 attenuated tumor progression. This correlated with increased IL2 and natural killer cell activity.

Medical Concept Normalization in a Low-Resource Setting [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
In the field of biomedical natural language processing, medical concept normalization is a crucial task for accurately mapping mentions of concepts to a large knowledge base. However, this task becomes even more challenging in low-resource settings, where limited data and resources are available.

CINs of the cytoplasm: dissecting dsRNA signaling in chromosomal instability

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Micronuclei, formed during cell division in chromosomal instability settings, rupture and lead to the accumulation of immunogenic double‐stranded RNA in the cytoplasm, activating MAVS‐dependent interferon signaling and innate antitumor immunity.

Resource-Efficient Medical Report Generation using Large Language Models [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Medical report generation is the task of automatically writing radiology reports for chest X-ray images. Manually composing these reports is a time-consuming process that is also prone to human errors. Generating medical reports can therefore help reduce the burden on radiologists.

Impact of Internally Developed Electronic Prescription on Prescribing Errors at Discharge from the Emergency Department [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Introduction: Medication errors are common, with studies reporting at least one error per patient encounter. At hospital discharge, medication errors vary from 15%-38%.

Circulating tumor DNA monitoring and blood tumor mutational burden in patients with metastatic solid tumors treated with atezolizumab

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In patients treated with atezolizumab as a part of the MyPathway (NCT02091141) trial, pre‐treatment ctDNA tumor fraction at high levels was associated with poor outcomes (radiographic response, progression‐free survival, and overall survival) but better sensitivity for blood tumor mutational burden (bTMB).

Dose‐dependent induction of epithelial‐mesenchymal transition in 3D melanoma models by non‐thermal plasma treatment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Non‐thermal plasma treatment of melanoma cells induced epithelial‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in a dose‐dependent fashion. This report highlights the critical need to further investigate potential adverse effects of non‐thermal plasma for cancer therapy and to optimize treatment parameters for clinical translation. Despite the promising results of non‐
