Evaluation of atmospheric indicators in the Adriatic coastal areas: a multi-hazards approach for a better awareness of the current and future climate

open access: yesFrontiers in Climate
Increasing climate resilience to global warming is one of the main challenges of the last few decades. Effective local measures have to be adopted to provide concrete solutions to the current and expected impacts of climate change.

Program focuses on climate of the Mediterranean region [PDF]

open access: yesEos, Transactions American Geophysical Union, 2012
Located between subtropical and mid‐latitude climates, the Mediterranean region acts as a transition area and is very sensitive to global climate change: As global temperatures have risen, the Mediterranean region has warmed, particularly in the west and in the summer, where surface temperatures in some locations increased at a rate greater than 0.4°C ...

The Interplay between the Gut and Ketogenic Diets in Health and Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This review synthesizes current knowledge on the interaction between ketogenic diets and the gut, covering gut physiology, intestinal immunity, and the gut microbiome. It explores innovative methods for tailoring the diet to maximize benefits while reducing side effects. Emphasis is placed on gut‐mediated mechanisms as a critical interface between diet

Linkages between climate, seasonal wood formation and mycorrhizal mushroom yields [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Fungi provide important forest ecosystem services worldwide. In Mediterranean pine forests, predicted warmer and drier conditions could lead to a decline in mushroom yields.

Late Pleistocene glaciers and climate in the Mediterranean [PDF]

open access: yesGlobal and Planetary Change, 2006
Abstract Evidence for Late Pleistocene glaciers and rock glaciers in the Pindus Mountains, Greece, is used to reconstruct palaeoclimate for this part of the Mediterranean during the last cold stage (Tymphian/ Wurmian). Mean annual precipitation was c . 2300 ± 200 mm and the mean summer temperature (June/July/August) was c. 4.9 °C at 2174 m a.s.l.,

Genomic Insights into the Origin, High Fecundity and Environmental Adaptation of Hu Sheep

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The Hu sheep diverged from the Small‐tailed Han sheep ≈1330 years ago, and subsequently migrated from northern to warm and humid southern regions. The genes BMPR1B, UNC5C, and GRID2 play a synergistic role in the superior reproductive traits of Hu sheep.

Freddy: breaking record for tropical cyclone precipitation?

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters
Depending on the location on the Earth, the amount of precipitation associated with tropical cyclones (TCs) can reach 20% of the total yearly precipitation over land and up to 40% over some ocean regions. TC induced freshwater flooding has been suggested
