The body as a medium in the medium
Arbeiten aus Anglistik und Amerikanistik / Agenda: Advancing Anglophone StudiesThis paper explores how socio-political discourses are constructed and developed transmedially in Bernardine Evaristo’s authorship, using the discourse of Black hair politics (Craig 2006; Davis 1994; Hooks 1989, 1995, 2015; Robinson 2011) as an example.

A type of excitable medium---an elastic excitable medium---has been created by incorporating the Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction into a polyacrylamide-silica gel. It permits one to address the problem of how the cardiac muscle contractions affect the dynamics of rotating spiral waves.

“Don’t join Twitter,” said some, “it’s full of trivia.” “Do join,” said others, “you can choose who you follow.” I created an account. Nothing happened. The statistics told me why: tweets=0 (I hadn’t posted any messages); followers=0 (nobody had signed up to read them); following=0 (I wasn’t signed up to read anyone else’s messages).

The method of covariant field theory at finite temperature is applied to the propagation of neutrinos in a medium. The implications due to the discrete space-time symmetries on the dispersion relations are derived. In the calculation of rates for processes involving neutrinos, the neutrino wave functions that must be used differ from those in a vacuum ...

The medium is the message or is the message in the medium?
Journal of perioperative practice, 2010Our conversation was interrupted with a woman shouting at her husband, 'I told you that you had selective deafness, you only hear what you want to and when you want to'. The innocent remark was bellowed across the hospital restaurant as I sat discussing practice issues with four perioperative colleagues.

Musical responses to the sinking of the Lusitania (1915)—a watershed in World War 1—appeared on both sides of the Atlantic. In Britain, Frank Bridge composed his Lament for string orchestra, dedicated to Catherine Crompton, a child who had perished along with her entire family.
