Bifunctional nanoprecipitates strengthen and ductilize a medium-entropy alloy

Nature, 2021
Single-phase high- and medium-entropy alloys with face-centred cubic (fcc) structure can exhibit high tensile ductility1,2 and excellent toughness2,3, but their room-temperature strengths are low1-3. Dislocation obstacles such as grain boundaries4, twin boundaries5, solute atoms6 and precipitates7-9 can increase strength.

Martensitic Transformation of High-Entropy and Medium-Entropy Shape Memory Alloys

Materials Science Forum, 2021
As new generation of high-temperature shape memory alloys, high-entropy alloys (HEAs) have been attracted for strong solid-solution hardened alloys due to their severe lattice distortion and sluggish diffusion. TiPd is the one potential high-temperature shape memory alloys because of its high martensitic transformation temperature above 500 °C.

Microstructural Characterization of Medium Entropy Alloy Thin Films

SSRN Electronic Journal, 2019
This study presents detailed microstructural investigations on single and bilayer thin films of two medium entropy alloys (MEAs) synthesized using magnetron sputter deposition. Single layer thin films of CoCrFeNi and AlCoCrFe show single-phase face-centered cubic (fcc) and body-centered (bcc) structure, respectively. The bilayer thin film consisting of

Shock-induced amorphization in medium entropy alloy CoCrNi

Scripta Materialia, 2022
Abstract We perform molecular dynamics simulations to investigate shock-induced amorphization in CoCrNi, a medium entropy alloy (MEA) and its mean-field variant without lattice distortion. We show that a critical velocity exists above which amorphization occurs. At a low shock velocity of 800 m/s, dislocation slip and twins dominate and amorphization

AlxCrFeNi medium entropy alloys with high damping capacity

Journal of Alloys and Compounds, 2021
Abstract In this paper, the phase constituent, damping and compressive properties of as-cast AlxCrFeNi (x = 0.3, 0.35, 0.37, 0.4, 0.5) medium entropy alloys (MEAs) were studied. The results show that the phase constituent changes gradually from a face-centered cubic (FCC) dominated structure to a single body-centered cubic (BCC) structure when x ...

Plastic deformation mechanism of CoCrxNi medium entropy alloys

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2021
Abstract The mechanical properties of multi-principal element alloys show a big difference with or without Cr additions. In this work, the roles of Cr on the mechanical properties, especially the plastic deformation mechanism of CoCrxNi alloys are systematically investigated.

Design Fe-based Eutectic Medium-Entropy Alloys Fe2NiCrNbx

Acta Metallurgica Sinica (English Letters), 2021
High-entropy alloys have attracted broad research interests due to their unique and intriguing mechanical properties. As a category of high-entropy alloys, eutectic high-entropy alloys combine the advantages of eutectic and high-entropy alloys, with excellent mechanical properties and casting properties.

Kinking in a refractory TiZrHfNb0.7 medium-entropy alloy

Materials Letters, 2020
Abstract As a type of cooperative deformation like twinning, kinking can improve the deformability of materials by stress relaxation and crystal reorientation. In this work, kinking with 〈0 1 1〉 lattice rotation axis was identified in a refractory TiZrHfNb0.7 medium-entropy alloy (MEA).

High-temperature oxidation behaviour of low-entropy alloy to medium- and high-entropy alloys

Journal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry, 2018
The high-temperature oxidation behaviour of CoCrNi, CoCrNiMn, and CoCrNiMnFe equimolar alloys was investigated. All three alloys have a single-phase face-centred cubic structure. Thermogravimetric analyses (TGA) were conducted at temperatures ranging from 800 to 1000 °C for 24 h in dry air.

Interdiffusion behaviors between NiCrFe alloy and low-/medium-/high-entropy alloys

Journal of Alloys and Compounds, 2022
Abstract Six groups of fcc solid/solid diffusion couples, including Ni-Cr-Fe/ low-entropy (pure Ni, and NiCo, NiCr, and NiCoCr) alloys, Ni-Cr-Fe/ medium-entropy (CoCrNi) alloys, and Ni-Cr-Fe/ high-entropy (CoCrFeNi) alloys, were prepared, and their composition profiles were experimentally measured.
