Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...

Exceptional damage-tolerance of a medium-entropy alloy CrCoNi at cryogenic temperatures

open access: yesNature Communications, 2016
High-entropy alloys derive their properties from being multi-element systems that can crystallize as a single phase. Here, the authors examine a medium-entropy alloy, CrCoNi, which displays strength-toughness properties exceeding those of high-entropy ...

Hierarchically heterogeneous microstructure and mechanical behavior of the multi-materials prepared by powder severe plastic deformation

open access: yesMaterials Research Letters, 2023
A heterostructuring strategy is an effective approach for abiding problems referred to as the strength-ductility trade-off. However, tailoring the heterostructure is an arduous problem.

Hydrostatic pressure tuned magneto-structural transition and occurrence of pressure induced exchange bias effect in Mn$_{0.85}$Fe$_{0.15}$NiGe alloy

open access: yes, 2016
Magnetic and magneto-functional behavior of a Fe-doped MnNiGe alloy with nominal composition Mn$_{0.85}$Fe$_{0.15}$NiGe have been investigated in ambient as well as in high pressure condition. The alloy undergoes first order martensitic phase transition (

Formation of Two Glass Phases in Binary Cu-Ag Liquid [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The glass transition is alternatively described as either a dynamic transition in which there is a dramatic slowing down of the kinetics, or as a thermodynamic phase transition.

Effectiveness of rTMS on Working Memory and Inhibitory Impairments in Patients With Post‐Stroke Executive Deficits

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Considerable efforts have been dedicated to developing effective treatments for post‐stroke executive impairment (PSEI), among which repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) has shown great potential. This study aimed to investigate the therapeutic effects of high‐frequency rTMS on working memory (WM) and response ...

A Study on the Mechanical Behavior and Deformation Mechanism of the Aged Ni2CoCr0.5Si0.3Al0.1Ti0.1 Medium Entropy Alloy

open access: yesTaiyuan Ligong Daxue xuebao
Purposes A novel type of Ni2CoCr0.5Si0.3Al0.1Ti0.1 medium entropy alloy is designed in this work. Methods Trace amounts of Si, Al, and Ti elements are added to the non-equiatomic ratio NiCoCr-based medium entropy alloy, and dispersed coherent L12 phase ...

Entropy Stabilized Medium High Entropy Alloy Anodes for Lithium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesBatteries & Supercaps
AbstractOne often proposed route to improved energy density for lithium‐ion batteries is to use alloy anodes, such as silicon, able to store large amounts of lithium. Mechanical instability caused by the large expansion and contraction associated with (de)lithiation, and hence bad cyclability, has, however, so far hindered progress. As proof‐of‐concept

Mechanochemical Synthesis and Characterization of Nanostructured ErB4 and NdB4 Rare‐Earth Tetraborides

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
ErB4 and NdB4 nanostructured powders are produced by mechanochemical synthesis. 5 h mechanical alloying and 4 M HCl acid leaching are used in the production. ErB4 and NdB4 powders exhibit maximum magnetization of 0.4726 emu g−1 accompanied with an antiferromagnetic‐to‐paramagnetic phase transition at about TN = 18 K and 0.132 emu g−1 with a maximum at ...

Temperature and load-ratio dependent fatigue-crack growth in the CrMnFeCoNi high-entropy alloy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Multiple-principal element alloys known as high-entropy alloys have rapidly been gaining attention for the vast variety of compositions and potential combinations of properties that remain to be explored. Of these alloys, one of the earliest, the ‘Cantor
