Aging changes in the medullary cavity of the proximal femur in American Blacks and Whites

AbstractThis study explores changes with age in the medullary cavity in an area of the femur which is becoming of increasing clinical interest. It is based on measurements of medial‐lateral and posterior‐anterior radiographs of the proximal one‐third of the right femur, below the greater trochanter.

Mechanical effects of reaming and implantation of acrylic cement into the medullary cavity of bones

Changes in the mechanical properties of the rat femur caused by intramedullary application of bone cement were studied. In one group of animals reaming of the medullary cavity was performed, and bone cement was injected. In a control group only reaming was performed.
