Hippocampal Chandelier Cells Modulate Seizure Susceptibility and Severity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 4, 19 January 2026.
The axon initial segment (AIS), crucial for action potential initiation, serves as a prime locus for controlling network activity. Chandelier Cells (ChCs), evolved in the mammals, intricately target AISs, acting as gatekeepers for neuronal firing. Diminishing ChC input makes animals more prone to developing seizures, whereas fortifying this connection ...

Selection and Characterization of SARS‐CoV‐2 Spike Binding Clickmers

open access: yesChemBioChem, Volume 27, Issue 1, January 2026.
Split‐combine click‐systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment against wild‐type SARS‐CoV‐2 spike glycoprotein yields benzofuran‐ and indole‐functionalized DNA aptamers (clickmers). These clickmers retain specific binding to multiple variants with nanomolar affinity, and the 31 nt indole‐functionalized truncate T2 retains binding to ...

Biodiversity and spatial distribution of medusae in the Magellan Region (Southern Patagonian Zone)

open access: yesLatin American Journal of Aquatic Research, 2014
Epipelagic medusae collected in the Magellan Region (Southern Patagonian Zone) during spring 2009 were analyzed. A total of 27 species of medusae were identified (25 hydromedusae and 2 scyphomedusae).

Biomass of scyphozoan jellyfish, and its spatial association with 0-group fish in the Barents Sea. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
An 0-group fish survey is conducted annually in the Barents Sea in order to estimate fish population abundance. Data on jellyfish by-catch have been recorded since 1980, although this dataset has never been analysed.

Divergent Nutrient Resorption Strategies in C4 Desert Shrubs: Stoichiometric Evidence From Assimilative Branches

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 1, January 2026.
We assessed interspecific differences in nutrient resorption efficiencies (N, P, K) of assimilative branches in three Calligonum species from the Junggar Desert. The results revealed distinct nutrient resorption strategies and scaling relationships among species, closely linked to both internal nutrient status and environmental factors.

Holobiont nitrogen control and its potential for eutrophication resistance in an obligate photosymbiotic jellyfish

open access: yesMicrobiome, 2021
Background Marine holobionts depend on microbial members for health and nutrient cycling. This is particularly evident in cnidarian-algae symbioses that facilitate energy and nutrient acquisition.

Effect of Targeted Probiotics on Anesthesia‐Induced Sleep Disturbances via Modulating the Gut Microbiome and Metabolites

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 1, January 2026.
The diversity and abundance of the gut microbiome in rats were significantly disrupted following post‐anesthesia sleep disturbance. Lactobacillales and Bifidobacterium yogurt supplementations increased sleep quality considerably and the abundance of beneficial bacteria, while reducing wakefulness and wake‐related metabolites in the gut.

The Effects of Heat Stress on the Physiology and Mortality of the Rhizostome Upside-Down Jellyfish Cassiopea xamachana—Observations Throughout the Life Cycle

open access: yesOceans
This study was designed to investigate the impact of heat stress on the physiological changes and mortality rates of different life stages of the rhizostome jellyfish species Cassiopea xamachana, including planula larvae, scyphistomae (polyps), and ...
